We were honored to welcome a reporter from The Enterprise to Sandwich Montessori School this week!

During her visit, she toured our campus, met with our Teacher Leaders, and learned more about what makes our school unique - from our Montessori classrooms to our growing Elementary, Middle School, and Hybrid Homeschool programs.

We also had the opportunity to share some of the exciting new learning opportunities coming this fall, including our expanding middle school program and enrichment offerings.

One week of Summer Enrichment down, and our hearts are full. ☀️

Last week, our 0-6 students spent their days creating, exploring, and making new friends. They hunted for famous works of art around the playground, learned about artists like Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, and Yoshida Chizuko, earned Art Explorer Certificates, created Color Monsters inspired by The Color Monster, explored primary colors, and spent plenty of time learning and playing outdoors.

One of the sweetest parts of summer at SMS is watching children connect with one another, build confidence, and discover new interests through hands-on experiences.

If school is out and you’re still figuring out your child’s summer plans, you’re not alone.

We still have space available in our Create Like an Artist week at Sandwich Montessori School, and it might be the perfect fit for the child who loves to create.

This isn’t your typical art camp. Throughout the week, children ages 7–14 will explore Cape Cod as artists do, spending time observing the natural world before returning to the studio to create original watercolor paintings, nature prints, mixed media artwork, and hand-built ceramics.

Led by practicing artist and printmaker Maisie, children will build a portfolio of original artwork and create a ceramic piece that will be fired, glazed and mailed home after the program.

By Friday, your child won’t just have completed projects. They’ll have created artwork they are genuinely proud of.

What happens when Montessori students dive deep into a topic, follow their curiosity, and take ownership of their learning?

You get a student-written, student-directed, and student-cast production about... bacteria. 🦠✨

Inspired by From Lava to Life, our Elementary students spent months bringing this story to life, transforming scientific concepts into a hilarious, creative, and educational performance. From clever jokes to memorable characters, they taught the audience all about the role of bacteria while showcasing confidence, collaboration, and imagination.

We couldn’t be prouder of the hard work, creativity, and courage it took to bring this production to the stage. Bravo to our young playwrights, directors, actors, and producers! 👏

🚌📚 Civics and Leadership Day in action!

Last Friday, our Elementary students stepped beyond the classroom and into the community for a meaningful day of hands-on learning. Many students experienced riding public transportation for the very first time as we took the RTA to the Sandwich Public Library.

Mrs. Frye welcomed us with a library tour, answered thoughtful questions, and shared information about the summer reading program. But perhaps the best part of the day was watching our students eagerly explore the shelves, discover new books, and dive into reading.

By riding public transportation and visiting a community resource like the library, students practiced independence, responsibility, and civic engagement. These real-world experiences help children understand how communities work, how public resources serve the common good, and how they can confidently participate in the world around them.

At Sandwich Montessori, we believe civics isn’t just something children study—it’s something they live. And as a school committed to building strong readers, there is nothing better than seeing students excited to explore a world of books.

From Minecraft engineering challenges and invention labs to theater productions, textile design, art studios, and garden-to-table experiences, our summer programs were designed for curious, creative, and engaged children ages 7–14.

Each themed week gives children the chance to build, create, perform, problem-solve, collaborate, and fully immerse themselves in meaningful hands-on learning experiences this summer.

SMS Summer Programs for Ages 0–6

Our 0–6 summer program at Sandwich Montessori School is centered around weekly themes with plenty of time for outdoor play, art, sensory activities, practical life work, movement, music, water play, gardening, and hands-on learning experiences.

We’re so proud of Annika, one of our 1st graders, for earning placement in the 31st Annual Cape Cod Veterans for Peace Poetry Contest.

This year, our students explored what peace means to them through poetry - reflecting, writing, and sharing their voices in meaningful ways. Out of 540 submissions across Cape Cod, 11 Sandwich Montessori students chose to submit their work, and Annika was recognized in the 1st grade bracket for her beautiful poem.

At Sandwich Montessori School, peace education is woven into everyday learning, and it’s so special to see our students expressing empathy, kindness, and hope through their words.
