🚨 OEA ACTION ALERT 🚨

SB 1490 will be voted on in Senate Ed tomorrow at 10 am.

Originally about school boards, it was just quietly rewritten to target education associations only. It now requires a new payroll deduct form every year, issued by the State Supt. No other profession must do this.

🆘IMMEDIATE ACTION ITEM🆘

There is a federal funding freeze from the Federal Education Department happening right now. More than $6 Billion in promised funds.

This affects ALL OF US! I will use Sand Springs, though, as an example of exactly how we are being affected:

- After school services and summer programming
>Sand Springs has after school programs and summer programming at 4 of our elementary schools at NO COST to parents.
- Funds to help English language learners
>SSPS provides tutors to help these students with their classes.
- Funds for professional development for teachers and administrators
>SSPS takes pride in having staff who have the most up-to-date knowledge for teaching and leading our staff and students.
- Salaries that are paid through these funds

Contact our federal representation. They need to hear from us. It is the ONLY way things are going to change. Our voices matter.

This week, there is another chance to get $50 for switching to autopay! Drop by Old School Bagel Cafe on Thursday, July 11th, between 10am - 3pm. Brendan Jarvis with the OEA Tulsa Metro Staff will be there to get you switched over and also give you $50. If this date doesn't work for you, check out the attached OEA photo that lists the dates for other sign-up events in the surrounding areas. Year after year, bills are proposed that would take away our ability to pay dues using payroll deduction. For that reason, OEA is rewarding members for signing up for autopay this summer.
