A Nature-Based, Unschooling Community, at Three Ponds Community Center Our organizers identify as neurodivergent, and we welcome other neurodiverse humans.
Sensory Scouts at Three Ponds Community is a nature focused, community loving, "unschooling" educational group striving to change the educational landscape. The purpose of our unschooling community is to connect Tulsa families back to nature as the main teacher and provider of our children, and our aim is to equip the next generation and their supportive families to be self and community reliant.
With our focus on unity with nature, our school roots itself in developing self-sufficient skills, sensory awareness/acceptance as earthlings, and community-sufficient skills. Being neurodivergent, our organizers have learned the benefits of uniting with nature to learn self-regulation skills, stimming movements, and inquisitive explorations to push our highly detailed brains. Our nature school seeks wisdom and sensory intelligence by connecting with Mother Nature and the many life and death cycles she creates. We work in tandem with the seasons to observantly and proactively take care of the land. Thus, providing natural inspiration and curiosity for our families to create intuitive projects as a part of the learning and developmental process. We accomplish our purpose by guiding families to explore the land with us and learn how to care for the animals, the trails, the trees, and the gardens. Additionally, we supplement structured learning with the use of Harbor & Sprout Unit curriculum. Overall, the children and caregivers are supported through their reintegration with nature. We learn to regulate our sensory systems by connecting with and caring for the land, ourselves, and each other. Parents attend Sensory Scouts with their children to reconnect families back into nature. Sensory Scouts is directed to children between 4-12 years of age with possible exceptions given to parents with children outside of the age bracket.
