TIME FOR A FULL UPDATE!!
We began our relocation project in the fall of 2024. Within the span of one year we raised nearly $1 million dollars. This included a HUGE showing of support from the communities of Sanborn, Sheldon, Archer, Melvin, & Hartley – its people and businesses — as well as MANY substantial grants we applied for and won.
Upon achieving that goal, we finished up all the necessary documentation and paperwork for the architect, and at their advice, we then went ahead and submitted our project for contractor bids. Unfortunately, the first bids came back far above expectations. Much the same as how a school bond issue works, we then reconfigured our project and submitted it again for bids. This process took a long time because we had to follow requirements of the CDBG government grant we had received. The second round of bids came in much more favorably, and this summer we accepted a bid from Schelling Construction out of Sioux Center bid for $1.3 million. Construction is finally underway with plans to be done by springtime!!!
Now it’s go time! We once again need our community and surrounding areas to rise up and see that daycare is a NEED for our town, our families, and our businesses. In order to for us to survive long term, we need to make this move happen now.
This move to Prairie View’s vacant wing will make us much more sustainable for the future. We are incredibly thankful to Prairie View for understanding the need for a daycare in Sanborn’s future. They have stepped up in such a big way to make this project possible. Our future is made even brighter by the enrichment that this move will provide for both the young and old of our community!
If you’ve crunched the numbers above, you’ll realize that we are short our project expenses by about $300k. The good news is that WE HAVE AN ANONYMOUS DONOR MATCH for up to $150K!!! Folks, we are doing our very best to apply for more grants to bridge the gap, but the truth is that we will need your help. Please consider donating to the cause. We have a number of fun community events and fundraisers in the works for the coming months. Please come out and support us.
We would love to share the project plans with you. We would love to answer any questions you may have. This is a COMMUNITY project and we are happy to have everyone know all about it!!
