I am excited to announce a new workshop I am going to be offering for UCSC Silicon Valley Extension--Gamefication for the Win! (see what I did there?)

I am super excited because in addition to being informative and practical and grounded in the neuropsychology of what games and play do for the brain, as well as how to tailor games to differing educational purposes, it is also just going to be fun. We are going to play some games, but even cooler, make our own! I have wanted to do a Make and Take workshop for years now. I cannot tell you how excited and thrilled I am to announce that Michael Curry, formerly of Making Math Real and now of m.sense, has generously agreed to do his introductory workshop—the one that is the prerequisite for all the other m.sense classes—for us at the UCSC extension ed therapy program.

The workshop will be October 10th and October 24th from 9-3pm, and will be $445, which includes some fabulous material you can use right away. Normally his introductory workshop is $599, so this is the perfect time to take it!

Making Math Real/m.sense is, imho, far and away the best approach and program there is for teaching math, especially for kids with learning disabilities or neurodivergences. And Michael Curry is an exceptional teacher. I was trained under him and can vouch for how powerful the program is and for how amazing he is as an instructor.

Still time to register for my Saturday workshop on informal assessments in education with UCSC Silicon Valley Extension. Saturday, June 27th, 9-3pm, on-line. Lots of hands-on activities and group discussions, in addition to direct presentations. Register now, or share with educators who would be interested!

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to

1. Evaluate formal assessments with a focus on looking for patterns in the data to develop a complete and nuanced understanding of their students' unique learning profile.

2. Apply best practices in giving and interpreting informal assessments and synthesize the data with formal testing to build an individualized educational program to best support their students.
