Calling all Alumni! Our Senior class would like to enlist your help with an exciting adventure they are just beginning...the I-Search paper.

It is not your standard research project. An I-Search paper is fueled by a student's own personal and practical interests, and it develops from a student's own searching, not re-searching. In other words it doesn't just revisit others' findings. It tells the story of a student's own discoveries, and it is accomplished via one-on-one interviews with experts.

And that's where you come in! Our seniors are looking for experts in various fields to help with their projects! Click the link below for more information.

Sending happy & healthy vibes for 2022!

The cover photo was captured by Jameela Bowo, TMS Class of 2023, and holds a special significance as we welcome the new year.

"In Chinese culture, the lion symbolizes power, wisdom, and stability. People perform lion dances at Chinese festivals or big occasions to bring good fortune and chase away evil spirits. The lion dance is one of the most important traditions at Chinese New Year. It is performed to bring prosperity and good luck for the upcoming year. The lion dance is also a way to create a festive atmosphere and bring happiness. "

I hope this message finds you well on this lovely Saturday afternoon. I am writing about Juneteenth, which is today. I'm sure you've heard that it is officially a federal holiday as of this past Thursday afternoon. In my book, this is long overdue. To give a quick two-sentence history: "Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when a group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned that they were free from the institution of slavery. But, woefully, this was almost two-and-a-half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation."

I was born in Houston, TX, and my family lived there until I was eight. We trekked to Galveston frequently, going to the beach to swim, and to a favorite restaurant for seafood dinner. From my early childhood in Texas, I have vague recollections about Juneteenth. But in my mostly white universe, it was not something I knew much about. My sense at that time was that it was a holiday for Black friends and neighbors we had, and not so much for my family. I didn't think that Juneteenth was unimportant, just that it was...separate. And I think we can all agree that "separateness" has its own way of defining what is important and what is not. https://conta.cc/35F58Sk

Join us Tuesday, June 30th, at 5 pm, for a tribute to departing Head of School Barbara Brown.

This 1-hour Zoom event, hosted by incoming Head of School Ben Griggs, is our opportunity to send Barb off on a virtual high note!

Barbara Brown has led The Marin School with passion and skill since 2011. Her vision, optimism, and belief in individual potential have defined the school over the past nine years, and her presence will be missed. We wish her well in her new endeavors and are grateful for her Big Impact on our Small School.

"A new Common Sense Media study documents just how many teens and adults take their devices to bed and how it’s impacting sleep patterns. NBC’s Kate Snow takes a closer look at the study’s findings and why we can benefit from stepping away from our tech."

And so today we've been thinking - what are some good strategies YOU employ to step away from tech?
