The Rose Ceremony is one of the ways we make the arc of a child's journey through MWS visible.

At the beginning of the school year, our first graders and eighth graders come together: one class just beginning its journey through the grades, the other entering its final year. The ceremony creates a connection between them that is both symbolic and real - and this connection between 1st and 8th grade students continues throughout the school year with our Buddy system, which brings these same students together each week to connect and collaborate on activities and projects.

For the younger students, the eighth graders offer a glimpse of who they might become. For the eighth graders, welcoming the first graders is an early opportunity to step into the role of mentor, leader, and caretaker of the community.

Looking into the future, we can open up possibilities and stoke our inspiration.

Looking into the past, we can reflect and turn our experience into insight.
