RSM San Mateo

RSM San Mateo RSM-San Mateo is a branch of the Russian School of Mathematics, an award winning, after-school math program for K-12 students.

Since 1997, RSM has helped children develop math fluency, intellect, and character, empowering them for life. Our Philosophy:
The goal of RSM is to give children a solid foundation of math knowledge. To do it well we build it gradually and thoroughly - rather than providing a quick fix for problems and gaps. Every new idea, every block of new information needs time to get absorbed in a child's br

ain. Every new skill needs to be practiced for sufficient length of time to make it "stick", and it needs to be repeatedly retrieved for new applications. This is why we offer a whole academic year program, with weekly classes and homework. This seems like a big commitment - but we believe that this is the most effective and the least stressful way for kids to really learn math.

This year, he earned a Silver Medal in the International Math Contest and placed 12th nationally in Math Kangaroo. Itโ€™s wonderful to see the confidence and problem-solving skills he has built over four years translate into such strong results.

One of our goals at RSM is to instill in our students a mathematical mindset. This means helping our students develop:

- The ability to reason
- The ability to navigate the abstract
- A strong intellectual character, built from persisting through challenging problems

This year, she placed in the Top 10% on the AMC 8, earning a Certificate of Achievement, and also brought home a Silver Medal from the International Math Contest. Taking on the AMC 8 as a fifth grader is an achievement in itself!
