Starburst Piano & Voice Studios

Starburst Piano & Voice Studios A music studio dedicated to teaching jazz, pop, blues, and classical music to kids and adults in the SF Peninsula.

Evan Landy, founder and head teacher of Starburst Studios, started learning the piano at age 6 from a highly established piano teacher. At age 15, he began offering lessons to children where his love for teaching grew. By 16, he was participating in every music program his high school offered including accompanying and assisting the choir program. As a Music and Business major at UC Davis, he continued to offer lessons to anyone who was interested. At 19 he began work as an accompanist for college voice classes where he was frequently asked to sub for the regular voice professor. Evan taught a Pre-K classroom for one year which led to the opening of his first full time piano and voice lesson business. He has sustained the business ever since teaching in the homes of students in many cities in the SF peninsula. Evan recently opened a music studio in Belmont, California where he teaches classical, jazz, pop and blues to kids and adults of all ages and skill levels.

This is a great way to look at it. It’s interesting to outline how different levels of practice develop into final outcomes for the student. As a reference, I ask all of my students to practice 30 minutes a day, 7 days a week. This is what my teacher asked of me, and I turned out great!

I love this chart. A lot of people want to learn the piano "just for fun", but they don't realize that it won't be fun if you don't really practice. You have to put the time in so that you can reach that level of enjoyment that you envisioned when you first started.

This is fully true for me. Proven by the fact that I now make a living teaching piano, and doing something I love.

If your parents ever submitted you to regular music lessons as a kid, you probably got in a fight with them once or twice about it. Maybe you didn't want to go; maybe you didn't like practicing. But we have some bad news: They were right. It turns…
