FP WANDERLUST

The best summer camp ever.

It was AMAZING!

We had almost no reception in Muir Woods, so we couldn’t share much about how we were doing. But we have a motto.

No news is good news.

If you don’t hear from us, it probably means we’re out there having an amazing time.

And we were.

This year’s FP WANDERLUST was filled with so much DANRAN time.

At FP, we usually spend most of our time together as one big group. But this year, we tried something different.

We split into smaller groups and chose our own adventures.

Some went on long hikes.
Some explored trails they had never been on before.
Some set out for the summit of Mt. Tam.

And then, at the end of the day, we came back together.

Meals at FP have always meant gathering in one big circle and eating together. But this year, with DANRAN as our theme, we changed that too.

We ate in smaller groups, often with people who had spent the day on completely different adventures.

While cooking, everyone shared stories.

“Where did you go today?”
“What happened?”
“What did you see?”

One night, we fired up the BBQ grills.
The next night, we made nabe, Japanese hot pot. Each group created its own version, so every pot tasted a little different.

Somehow, these smaller dinner circles felt even more alive.

There were stories everywhere.

One FP Japan student looked out at the landscape, and began to cry.

He said the tears just came naturally when he saw the view.

Another student had one simple wish:

“I want to do suikawari.”

Watermelon splitting.

They had to carry a huge watermelon for eight kilometers.

So the group took turns carrying it along the trail.

Eight kilometers.
One giant watermelon.
A group of friends determined to make one ridiculous idea happen.

And they did.

An idea becomes an adventure.
An adventure becomes a story.
And a story becomes something we share around the table.

From morning until night, this camp was filled with DANRAN.

Hiking together.
Singing together.
Playing card games together.
Laughing together.
And simply having time to be together.

Thank you to everyone who came to FP Summer Camp this year.

We’ll see you next year.

Until then…

The adventure continues.

Over the years at FP, we have been incredibly fortunate to meet so many wonderful people. One of the greatest joys has been watching our former students grow into thoughtful, kind, and inspiring adults.

Life isn't always easy. We all face challenges along the way. That's why moments like this mean so much to Erin and me. It's not just the chance to catch up. It's the long-awaited hugs, the familiar laughter, and the way everyone still finds joy in the same little moments that brings back so many memories. Those are the things we've truly missed.

As our children grow, every parent wonders how to support them, when to step in, and when to step back. We've realized that these questions are universal. Whether in Japan or the United States, parents share many of the same hopes, struggles, and dreams for their children. It was such a joy to reconnect with so many parents today, to hear your stories, exchange ideas, and be reminded that we're all walking this journey together.

Even if it's only for a little while, having the chance to share stories, laugh together, and simply be in the same room is one of the greatest gifts we could ask for.

Thank you for taking the time to join our community gathering today. Your presence means more to us than you know.

Adventure continues…

FP Summer Camp UPLIFTERS – Day 5

The final day didn’t feel like the final day.

Usually, by Friday, everyone is tired. But this year was different.
It felt like Day 1 all over again.

The staff arrived with an energy that was contagious. They had been designing the final day’s FP QUEST, deciding for themselves what kind of experience they wanted to create. Since FP UPLIFTERS was a new theme, there wasn’t a script to follow. None of us, including the staff, had ever experienced this FP Uplifters camp before.

We weren’t recreating something. We were creating it together.
That excitement spread naturally to the campers.

Together they explored downtown San Mateo, striking up conversations with strangers, completing challenges, encouraging one another, and discovering that courage often begins with a simple “hello.”

Later that afternoon, families gathered to watch a 15-minute highlight film capturing the amazing moments from the week.

Throughout the week, there were countless moments when we could see the heart of Feelosopher’s Path coming to life. We discovered this camp together.

Our closing ceremony ended with one final reflection. Each camper shared something they were proud of about themselves before getting a new “film”from an air balloon, symbolizing the next chapter of their journey. As the balloon lifted from the floor, it reminded us that this week was never meant to be the end of the story. It was the beginning of a new one.

Thank you to every camper, every family, and every staff member who made FP UPLIFTERS such a special experience.

We hope you carry what you discovered here into the adventures that lie ahead.

See you next year.

FP Summer Camp UPLIFTERS – Day 4

Throughout the day, we enjoyed uplifting activities and community-building games. Our camp counselors prepared creative and energetic challenges that kept everyone laughing, encouraging one another, and working together.

We actually began Monday with a very similar goal: taking time to uplift ourselves before uplifting others. But after spending the past three days together, something had changed.

Today’s activities were familiar, yet the energy in the room was completely different.

The campers were more confident. They cheered each other on naturally, shared more openly, and weren’t afraid to be themselves. It was clear that the friendships and trust they had built over the last few days had transformed our community into something special.

Tomorrow is our final day, and a new hallenge is waiting for everyone: FP QUEST.

After camp ended today, our staff gathered together, brainstorming ideas and making final preparations to create an unforgettable experience for the campers.

Day 4 was another day full of laughter, growth, and connection.

FP Uplifters - Day 3

Starting a conversation with a complete stranger is never easy.

We started to say “new people"

Our campers were nervous. Really nervous.

Today’s challenge wasn’t just about talking to people. It was about uplifting them and discovering the right moment to offer the handmade gifts they had created. The gifts weren’t meant to interrupt a conversation. They were meant to become part of it.

One group approached a young man from England.

He said, “I’m here outside because England’s match starts in about 30 minutes and I am going to wathch it"

One camper responded,
“No matter what happens in the game, we’d like to give you this trophy.”

It felt completely natural.

Then, with perfect timing, another camper handed him a Little Fit. So he can throw the fit if England loses. It was a genuine moment of connection.

For our campers, walking up to strangers was far outside their comfort zone. Every step took courage. But their desire to brighten someone else’s day was stronger than their fear.

Something else became clear today.

We assumed that we were the only ones outside our comfort zone. But the people we approached were often just as nervous.

Some wondered if we were selling something.
Others questioned why we were giving things away for free.
Some were understandably cautious, wondering if there was a hidden agenda.

But as the conversations continued, something changed.

People began to realize that this really was a summer camp, and that these students simply wanted to make someone’s day a little brighter.

The walls came down.
The conversations grew warmer.
And strangers became new friends, even if only for a few minutes.

Today reminded us that courage is contagious.

Sometimes, all it takes is one genuine conversation to uplift both the person giving and the person receiving.

Day 3… Good job guys!!

FP summer camp UPLIFTERS Day 2

What do you bring to FP UPLIFTERS today?

“Kindness.”
“Humor.”
“Creativity.”

One by one, campers called out what they wanted to bring to our community, writing their words on our Circle of Friends poster. The list kept growing.

Then one camper said, “Sense of self.”

The room paused for a moment. It was a reminder that who we are is just as important as what we do.

Then one of our staff shouted, “Chaos!”

The whole camp burst into applause and laughter.

Because that’s true, too.

A great camp isn’t perfectly organized. It’s created by everyone. We all bring something different, and together we create the experience.

Today was all about preparing to uplift others during our trip to San Francisco. Campers spent the day creating gifts to give away, but we also talked about something even more important.

A handmade gift may start a connection.

A genuine conversation is what truly uplifts another person.

Tomorrow, we’ll carry both with us.

Another amazing day. Here we come.

FP UPLIFTERS SUMMER CAMP DAY 1

This week at FP UPlifters, we shared the kind of community we want to create together.

We exchanged heartfelt words of appreciation and gratitude, reminding each other that every member of our community matters.

Our camp counselors showed confidence, responsibility, and genuine care, creating an environment where campers felt comfortable sharing new ideas and trying new things.

Before we set out to uplift others during Wednesday’s field trip, we first uplifted ourselves by building new friendships through fun activities.

Amazing Day 1, everyone!
