College of San Mateo extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who joined us last Saturday for KCSM Jazz on the Hill 2026. It was a privilege to welcome the summer season with such a sophisticated jazz atmosphere and to witness these extraordinary artists perform live on our campus stages.
The afternoon became truly memorable through the classic swing of the Nathan Tokunaga Quartet and the spellbinding vocal and guitar mastery of Tuck and Patti. The vibrant energy continued with the Afro-Caribbean rhythms of the Roger Glenn Latin Jazz Ensemble featuring special guest Ray Obiedo, a masterful Miles Davis centennial tribute by the Miles Smiles all-star group, and a powerful, soulful blues finale by Vanessa Collier.
We are deeply thankful to the exceptional musicians, our dedicated staff, and our community supporters for an unforgettable season opener. Please swipe through to view highlights from this remarkable day of live music.

New seasons bring new paths, and today we welcome our scholars and faculty back to the College of San Mateo for the summer semester, whether you are learning on campus or online. This is a time of migration, renewal, and growth, a natural rhythm written directly into the hummingbirds, active insects, and vibrant flowers returning to our grounds.
This seasonal energy beautifully defined the powerful poetry event we hosted recently, welcoming author Deyci Carrillo Lopez back to campus for a reading of her second collection, « Floreciendo With This Magic. » Her event, « Floreciendo Juntos: Turning Rage to Power, » explored deep themes of shedding past layers, reclamation, and collective strength, connecting the transformations in nature to the resilience of our student community.
We thank Deyci Carrillo Lopez for bringing her light to our campus, and we invite you to swipe through to experience highlights from her reading alongside the blossoming summer life thriving across our campus today.

🌍 Help shape a safer, more resilient community!
The San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD), in partnership with the County of San Mateo Office of Emergency Management, is updating the 2026 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP)—and we need your voice!
⛑️ What is the LHMP?
It’s a federally required plan that identifies local risks—like earthquakes, wildfires, flooding, and utility disruptions—and outlines long-term strategies to protect our campuses, infrastructure, and community.
📢 Why your feedback matters:
- Your input ensures the plan reflects actual community priorities and experiences.
- Maintaining an approved plan keeps SMCCCD and local cities eligible for vital FEMA federal disaster recovery and mitigation grants.
The public comment period is officially OPEN now through June 15, 2026. 📆
📥 How to participate: Review the SMCCCD draft annex and share your feedback using the official comment form (available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Tagalog).
