Since 1997, San Marcos High School has offered a unique opportunity for students of German: the chance to travel to Germany for a multi-week immersion stay. Students participating have the chance to apply the skills they have learned in class while they are surrounded by the German culture and language. It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know our beloved Genie Rolfe has passed on. She was a long time supporter of GAPP, and she chaperoned the 2014 trip to Germany. She was my rock on that trip, and I couldn't have done it without her. She battled cancer the last 6 years, and is now at peace. Details about services have not been announced yet.

Our 2019 GAPP Exchange finished last night with a homecoming tailgate party, followed by American football! Today, we said ‘bye for now to our German partners at the Austin airport. Celebrating 23 years of cultural partnership!

Not many photos today; students were exploring Munich in groups and finishing their shopping. Packing tonight; to the airport bright and early tomorrow! We will see you soon!

It’s been a long, full day. Our trip to Neuschwanstein went well, and we finished with a surprise birthday cake for Daylin! Tomorrow we will roam around Old Town Munich and the marketplace, and fly home on Thursday! Parents, we will see you in Austin Thursday afternoon shortly after we land at 5:55 pm!

After a sobering visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the Munich English Garden, and found a “New York-style” cafe with nachos, ribs, burgers, and other menu items that were sort of like home. We are off to Neuschwanstein tomorrow morning!

We traveled to Munich today; said good-bye to our hosts at the train station, then had quite a day riding trains, changing trains, missing a connection because the train was really late, finding a new connection, then riding the rest of the way without our reserved seats (finally found seats towards the end). We will visit Dachau tomorrow.
