Greetings Brothers and Sisters of the Coalition of Black Faculty & Staff,
It is with a saddened heart that we announce the recent passing of Dr. Elvin Holt. Dr. Holt was the first tenured Black professor in the Department of English, he taught from 1983 to 2020 and earned multiple teaching awards in his 37 years at Texas State.
In 2021, The Texas State University System Board of Regents approved the motions set forth by Texas State University to rename one of two unnamed streets on the Round Rock Campus after Dr. Holt in honor of his work in multicultural curriculum development.
Dr. Holt also served as the President of the Calaboose of the African American History Museum for many years and acted to preserve local San Marcos History. One of his lasting contributions to the community was The Trailblazers ceremony which honored the local Civil Rights trailblazers in San Marcos and Hays County during the dedication of the LBJ/MLK Crossroads Memorial in 2014.
As more information becomes available, we will do our best to share this information to the community.

The name "Juneteenth" references the date of the holiday, combining the words "June" and "nineteenth."
On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger led the Union Soldiers to Galveston, TX, to announce the end of the war and the freedom of all enslaved people.
And 156 yrs later this holiday become a FEDERAL HOLIDAY!
Today we celebrate FREEDOM

Dr. Maneka Brooks is helping make aware the cost for teacher certifications. Some future Texas teachers pay more than $500.00 in testing certification fees in addition to college tuition. Help Bobcat teachers out with a tax-deductible donation. Any amount helps: https://catfunder.txstate.edu/o/texas-state-university/i/catfunder/s/support-future-texas-teachers?fbclid=IwAR0jI4JOufStpku8a8AhaSdYa3VdHZMYxc60hJIbVYZHvRcqF6wDP5JZapc
Support Future Texas Teachers
The cost of certification testing can be a barrier to entering the classroom as a highly qualified teacher. Your contribution will help to reduce the financial burden on future teachers.
