After 13 days abroad, our SJMC Japan study abroad group has wrapped up an unforgettable experience.

From the Buddhist temples of Kamakura to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial to the historic landmarks of Kyoto, students were fully immersed in Japanese culture and history.

Throughout the trip, students wrote articles and produced content that captured their experiences in real time, sharpening their skills as communicators.

Future journalists take their skills to the next level at Texas State! 📝

SJMC welcomed more than 250 high school students and teachers from across Texas for the ILPC/TAJE Summer Workshop, hosted on campus for the third consecutive year.

From Advanced Writing and Reporting to Video Storytelling, Photojournalism, and Social Media Reporting, participants spent the week sharpening their skills and exploring new storytelling techniques.

We're proud to continue partnering with ILPC and TAJE to inspire the next generation of storytellers!

A group of SJMC students visiting Lake Tahoe is gaining hands-on experience in mobile storytelling and travel writing through immersive, real-world learning. With stops across some of the region's most breathtaking landscapes, each location provides a new opportunity to develop their skills.

SJMC advertising students took the classroom to one of the most influential advertising markets in the industry, New York City.

Students connected with advertising and communications professionals, including several SJMC alumni, through visits to Bandits & Friends with Amy Rivera, BBH, Condé Nast with Allie Horton, and the New Museum with Communications Director Sarah Williamson.

This trip was just one of many SJMC educational experiences taking place this summer that take learning beyond the classroom.

Top 3 in the nation!

National Student Advertising Competition team placed third nationally at the American Advertising Federation National Student Advertising Competition Finals after developing a fully integrated campaign for the NFL youth programs.

Out of 103 universities nationwide, our interdisciplinary team of advertising, communication design, and marketing students earned a national top-three finish and took home the Lumie Award for excellence in concept testing and research innovation.

This marks Texas State’s fourth top-three national finish since 2020, including a national championship in 2025.

Congratulations to our students, faculty advisors, and everyone who contributed to another remarkable year for the NSAC program!
