The final assignment in the first-ever social media storytelling class Sunday morning at the 2026 ILPC/TAJE summer journalism workshop was to create a video ideal for a social media platform. The class reviewed several such models including person-on-the-street interviews which offer student journalists the chance to cover all students on campus with both breadth and depth. The students analyzed examples and then considered what types of questions would produce the best responses for an Instagram reel.

For her question, Kailey Perez of Port Neches-Groves High School asked her interview subjects, “If you had to pick one hobby to be amazing at,, what would it be?” Armed with that question, she went out on the Texas State campus Sunday morning looking for scholastic journalists, workshop faculty or anyone else on the Texas State campus who might answer it well. Here is the result of that quest.
