“I have always dreamed of traveling and experiencing the world beyond Texas…” 🌍✨

Alexandra recently completed her study abroad experience in Padova, Italy, turning a longtime dream into an opportunity to experience life beyond what she had known.

As a first-generation college student, studying abroad represented both personal growth and a chance to make her family proud.

Making this experience possible took hard work and planning. Alexandra saved money, picked up extra shifts, and received encouragement and support from her family and friends throughout the process.

During her time in Italy, she had the opportunity to experience a new environment, meet new people, and experience the culture firsthand.

Her advice to future students:

“Take the chance. Opportunities like this can feel intimidating at first, but growth happens when you step outside of your comfort zone.” ✈️

Alexandra's story is a reminder that opportunities can begin with simply taking the chance to pursue them. 🌍✨

“I was inspired to study abroad because I’ve always wanted to experience the world beyond the perspective I’ve grown up with.” 🌍✨

Piscis participated in a multi-country study abroad experience across the Netherlands, France, and Portugal, where she explored global communication and cultural differences firsthand.

As a Public Relations and Communication major, she was especially interested in how culture shapes the way people interact, collaborate, and build relationships across borders. Throughout the program, she had the opportunity to experience new cultures, explore vibrant cities, and gain a broader perspective on communication in global environments.

Receiving a scholarship made this experience possible and removed financial pressure, allowing her to focus on personal, academic, and professional growth.

Her advice to future students:
“Don’t let finances stop you from at least trying… there are so many scholarships and support systems available if you take the time to look.” ✨

👘🧵✈️ Fashion without borders.

Our Fashion Merchandising faculty-led program recently returned from an incredible journey through Japan and Vietnam, where students explored the intersection of fashion, culture, craftsmanship, and global industry.

The experience began in Tokyo with a traditional tea ceremony and kimono experience before students explored the city's dynamic retail landscape through professional visits and guided fashion tours, including an inside look at Japan's iconic street fashion culture.

In Vietnam, students discovered another side of the fashion industry through perfume crafting, textile and factory tours, visits to local fabric markets, the historic Silk Village near Hanoi, and Kilomet 109, an eco-friendly fashion brand preserving traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship. Along the way, they also explored museums and connected with the rich history and culture that continue to influence fashion today.

From luxury retail to sustainable design, traditional craftsmanship to modern manufacturing, students experienced firsthand how fashion connects people, cultures, and communities around the world. 🌏✨

“For both of us.” 🌍✨

One of our TXST students participating in the Rome & Vienna program chose to study abroad to step outside of their comfort zone, experience new cultures, and grow both personally and academically.

This journey also carries a deeper meaning:
“It’s an opportunity to visit a place that my mom has always dreamed of seeing but is no longer able to travel to because of her health issues. Being able to experience it for both of us makes this journey even more meaningful.”

Through hard work, financial planning, and support from family, she turned this goal into reality and is now creating unforgettable memories while exploring Rome and Vienna. 🇮🇹🇦🇹

Her advice to future students:
“You don’t have to have everything figured out to take the first step.”

Study abroad is more than travel — it is growth, confidence, perspective, and discovering what you are capable of. ✈️

🌍✨ A senior year trip to Europe inspired Chelsea to continue exploring the world through a study abroad experience of her own.

This summer, Chelsea headed to Padova, Italy as part of a Texas State University Summer Hub program, where she had the opportunity to continue learning beyond the classroom while immersing herself in a new culture.

Making this experience possible required dedication and planning. Chelsea worked and saved for her study abroad journey while receiving strong support from her family. Although it took effort and sacrifice, she knew the experience will be worth it.

During her time abroad, Chelsea was hoping to immerse herself in Italian culture, gain new experiences, and meet people from different backgrounds. She was also looking forward to stepping outside her comfort zone and putting herself in new situations that will help her grow.

Her advice to future students:

“Do it because you will never get this experience again and it will make you grow so much with new insight into the world.” ✈️

Study abroad is not only about the places we visit—it is about the experiences that inspire us, the connections we make, and the perspectives we gain along the way.
