Welcome to the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (C-STEM) at California State University San Marcos. Our college builds upon the successes and accomplishments of the prior College of Arts and Sciences, which was established in 1991 as a "scholarly community committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality education for students in a rapidly-changing world." C-STEM continues to promote this vision, through exemplary teaching, innovative curricula, and excellence in research. Integral to the College's instructional mission is the generation of new knowledge through research and creative activity. 🎉 Congratulations to the Department of Physics! 🎉

Dr. Justin Perron has helped bring not one, but TWO, major grants to CSUSM students! Months of collaboration and preparation have resulted in a $2.1 million award from the California Jobs First Regional Investment Initiative. To help address a demand for a skilled quantum workforce in the state, CSUSM is offering quantum-focused bridge programs for incoming freshmen, professional development programs for faculty and quantum-centered undergraduate research opportunities.

Weeks later, the department received news that the U.S. National Science Foundation is renewing its support for the NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute for Quantum Computation, a multi-institutional research center spanning California and led by UC Berkeley. This grant will supply UC Berkeley and its partner institutions’ advanced quantum research hub with $37.5 million in funding over the next five years to address discovering and realizing the power of quantum computation, understanding nature through the lens of quantum information science, and developing quantum technologies and their applications.

🐾 Now successfully entering its 5th year, the Professional Mentoring Program connects students with industry professionals for one-on-one mentoring, career exploration, networking, and professional development.

Just as exciting, the Blueprints Peer Mentoring Program enters its 2nd year and we are excited to see more first year students apply! Blueprints pairs first-year CSTEM students with upper-division student mentors to help students build community, navigate college, and connect with opportunities.

Our Summer Scholars and faculty mentors were honored to have President Neufeldt, Provost Carl Kemnitz, Vice Provost Mary Oling-Sisay, Dean Jackie Trischman, and Jeff Cullen, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Federal Relations, visit and learn more about their research. The conversations were engaging and showcased the promising futures of our students!

Summer Scholars continues to offer an opportunity to conduct research in an environment that encourages critical thinking, team building, leadership, creativity, and impactful solutions.
