The Fall 2026 semester began today, and two senior Ph.D. students from the UWBG Semiconductor Lab, Pallab Kumar Sarkar and Taqy Saif, along with Susannah Sherwood from Dr. Chen's lab, were invited to participate in a panel discussion during the RDI Workshop for incoming Ph.D. students in the Ingram School of Engineering. The session was moderated by Dr. Brian Samuels (PhD), Lecturer in Electrical Engineering and a postdoctoral researcher in the UWBG Semiconductor Lab.
During the panel, they shared valuable experiences and perspectives from their own Ph.D. journeys and highlighted some of the important lessons, challenges, and practices that can help new students navigate their doctoral studies successfully. It is very rewarding to see how much our Ph.D. students have grown throughout their journey- from beginning their own doctoral studies to now being in a position to share their experiences, mentor incoming students, and provide valuable guidance for the next generation of Ph.D. researchers.

A heartfelt farewell to Dr. Nathan Rabelo Martins and Azmain from the UWBG Semiconductor Lab at Texas State University. Dr. Martins served as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the CREST Center for Ultrawide Bandgap (UWBG) Semiconductor Device Materials, co-led by Dr. Ariful Haque, and is now beginning an exciting new chapter as an Assistant Professor at a university in Brazil. We also congratulate Azmain on graduating in Summer 2026! We wish them both continued success and all the very best in their next journeys.

The UWBG Semiconductor Laboratory at Texas State University is proud to announce that its director, Dr. Ariful Haque, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, has been selected as one of the 2025 Emerging Leaders by the Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, one of the world's leading and most prestigious journals in applied physics, published by IOP Publishing since 1968. This prestigious international recognition highlights outstanding early-career researchers who are making significant contributions to the field of applied physics. Only 10 researchers from leading universities and research institutions around the world were invited and selected for this honor. They have completed their Ph.D. within the past 10 years (excluding career breaks) and have been identified by the journal's Editorial Board and the applied physics community as among the most exciting researchers of their generation.

Dr. Haque's research at Texas State focuses on ultra-wide-bandgap semiconductor growth and characterization, laser-assisted semiconductor processing, and semiconductor heterointegration for advanced electronic and optoelectronic devices. His research is supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation and other federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense. This prestigious international recognition reflects Dr. Haque's growing impact in applied physics and semiconductor research and highlights the world-class research being conducted in the Ingram School of Engineering at TXST.
