Brenda Martinez is our new Student Graphic Designer for the upcoming school year! Brenda is looking forward to supporting the MFA program through creative design for social media, residency events, and other program initiatives. She’ll help create promotional materials and visual content that highlight our students, faculty, and community.

Hi everyone! I’m really looking forward to working with everyone in the MFA program!

As part of my BFA, I’m currently working on developing my skills in UX/UI design and strengthening my branding skills, particularly in creating visual identities that communicate a brand’s personality and values.

A fun fact about me is that I love watching older movies and shows. Some of the shows I’m currently watching are The Big O and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I also have a cat named Fiona!

Spring Residency Keynote Presentation by Radius Collective is now available on our YouTube channel.

The keynote presentation for the MFA/CD’s spring ‘26 Residency event was delivered by guest designers, Radius Collective. Using the symbolic and literal form of a line, Radius Collective is a creative body of artists and designers focused on critical discourse around identity, place, and connection.

At the end of every semester, our community gathers in person for one to two days of presentations, real-time feedback, and creative collaboration.
This past spring, Radius Collective joined us to deliver an inspiring keynote and lead “Prompt”—a high-energy, one-day workshop exploring distance through rapid design and experimental making. To wrap it all up, participants turned their collective experiments into an incredible, on-site exhibition!
Residency is where theory meets practice, but most importantly, it’s where our community is nurtured and connections are made. It’s a time to support and inspire one another, concluding with a celebration of everyone’s hard work.

Maham Soomro was recognized for outstanding service to the Graduate House of Representatives. This award is given to members of the House Leadership who have served 2 years in student government advocating for TXST’s graduate students. Maham has been in Leadership for both of those years, starting as House Secretary and being elected as House Leader soon after. During her time, the House experienced significant growth, with interest in the student government and attendance at events at an all-time high. Congrats Maham!

This week's Graduate Assistantship Spotlight: Stephanie Wiesehuegel!

"Being a GTA has opened my eyes to just how meaningful teaching is to me and has shaped my love for design pedagogy. Working closely with students—helping them think through ideas, experiment, and grow as designers—has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my graduate experience. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my students succeed and gain confidence in their work. This role has completely changed my perspective and my goals, making graduate school feel far more purposeful and rewarding. Through this experience, I’ve realized that teaching is where I feel most engaged and inspired, and it has solidified my goal of becoming a professor after I graduate."
