Jacob David Lozano, a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in Applied Anthropology at Texas State University, has been awarded the Meso-American Research Grant in the amount of $5,000. The award supports his continued work in Mesoamerican archaeology, including upcoming field and outreach activities in Belize.
The funding will assist with archaeological research, travel, lodging, and participation in the Belize Community Archaeology (BCA) program, a community-based initiative focused on expanding access to archaeological education. Through BCA, Lozano contributes to hands-on training in ceramic analysis, excavation techniques, iconography, and laboratory and statistical methods for students in Belize, supporting both cultural heritage engagement and professional development.
This award reflects Lozano’s continued dedication to research, mentorship, and collaborative fieldwork, while underscoring the meaningful role archaeology can play in bringing people into closer connection with the past and the communities that preserve it.
