It is with very heavy hearts that we share the loss of our beloved CMCS therapy dog, Gidget.
Following eye surgery, Gidget developed a severe infection that her little body was unable to overcome. While our hearts are broken, we are incredibly grateful for the six wonderful years we had with her.
Gidget loved coming to work every day and never seemed to tire of greeting students, offering comfort, accepting belly rubs, and brightening even the hardest days. She touched the lives of countless military-connected students, alumni, staff, and visitors who walked through our doors.
We hope that everyone who knew Gidget will remember her fondly and carry a little piece of her kindness forward. Thank you for loving her as much as she loved all of you.

Gidget update: She had a harder time than we expected, handling the pain and nausea but we're back on track after some changes to the medications she's on and now she's hanging out with a couple of her favorite Lambchops 😀

Keep Gidget in your thoughts tomorrow. Her eye problems have, sadly, gotten worse over the summer. Wednesday she's scheduled to have surgery to remove her eyes. Even though this feels drastic, we really think it is going to improve her quality of life. No more pain! She's a young smart dog and we know she'll learn how to navigate the world quickly. She will be up and around in no time and ready for all of her friends to be back in the center a month from now.

For Animal Science student Rebecca Castro, being a military child is a source of immense pride. The daughter of a U.S. Marine, Rebecca finds inspiration in celebrating her father’s service and hearing the stories of his time in the Corps.
At Cal Poly, Rebecca has found her own “genuinely happy place” at the Center for Military-Connected Students. Whether she’s grabbing a snack before a lab or connecting with peers who share her background, the Center has become an essential part of her Mustang journey.
