Our 30th anniversary celebration was a wonderful success!

Thank you to everyone who joined us in the Garden of the Seven Sisters to celebrate 30 years of gardening education, community, and volunteer service in San Luis Obispo County.

The day was filled with good food, speeches, memories, and beautiful garden-grown flowers shared as centerpieces and decorations.

Thank you especially to the volunteers and committees who planned, set up, shared flowers and food, took photos, and helped make the celebration possible.

Here’s to 30 years of growing, learning, and sharing research-based gardening information with our community—and to the volunteers who continue making it happen.

A plant sale will be happening before and during the workshop, featuring drought-tolerant plants suited to our Mediterranean climate and grown by our plant propagation team. Featured plants include white sage, red monkey flower, ‘Pozo Blue’ sage, Verbena ‘De La Mina,’ Ceanothus ‘Yankee Point,’ ‘Iceberg’ rose, and Penstemon heterophyllus. Proceeds support our program and future community education.

A lively group of 14 joined volunteers Betty and Beverly for a Seed Starting Talk at the Nipomo Senior Center.

All were interested in learning and eager to get their hands dirty starting ornamental and edible vegetable seeds. There were several “I didn’t know that” comments as Betty and Beverly explained how to sanitize starter containers, when and how to plant seeds, and how to know when to transplant seedlings.

The group chose the seeds they wanted to grow and spent the rest of the time using what they learned. Each attendee went home with extra seeds from the package they chose.

Thank you Renee's Garden for the generous seed packet donation, which continues to support workshops and educational projects across our program.

Congratulations to our newest UC Master Gardeners!

The 2026 training class has officially wrapped up, and we celebrated with a graduation at the Garden of the Seven Sisters Demonstration Garden.

Since January, this group has been studying and practicing everything from propagation and integrated pest management to soil health, plant problem diagnosis, and public education.

We are excited to welcome them into the program as they begin sharing their knowledge with the public across San Luis Obispo County.
