Cal Poly Loggers win First Place at AWFC this year!
Cal Poly A team took 1st place overall, Flathead Valley Community College took 2nd, and University of Montana took 3rd. We also had 4 of the top 6 overall top male competitors, including the top 3. Will Kraemer from Cal Poly won Bull of the Woods, the top male competitor! Congratulations Cal Poly Loggers!

Congratulation's to our Soil Judging Team who received 1st overall team, as well as 1st in the group judging pit, at this weekend's competition at the WW Ranch in Woodlake, CA! Also, congratulations to Angus Chang, Taylor Cullum-Muyres, Riley Haas, and Adriana Delucchii who placed 6th, 5th, 4th and 1st place consecutively for individual rounds!
A total of 25 people competing from 3 teams. Cal Poly, CSU Chico, and CSU Fresno.

All NRES Students,

You may know that we will be holding NR 475 Sustainable Forestry and Environmental Practices again this Summer at Swanton Pacific Ranch - for the 11th time!!!

We are hosting the first formal informational meeting for prospective NR 475 students…

JOIN US: this Thursday, February 9th at 11:10 in 11-304 to learn more and enjoy pizza!

This is a great course involving 40 of the State's leading resource management professionals. The course is required for our Forestry and Natural Resources majors pursuing the Forest and Environmental Practices concentration. Groups develop a timber harvest plan throughout the four weeks with direction from professional foresters and from botanists, hydrologists, wildlife and fisheries biologists, and geologists. You will also hear from agency representatives responsible for overseeing and reviewing plans. The course is multidisciplinary in the approach, so it is also a great fit for students in other majors and concentrations!

NRES Volunteers Travel to Kenya to Share Skills with Agriculture Faculty - Cal Poly soil scientists Dr. Ronald Taskey and Mr.Craig Stubler, travelled to western Kenya for three weeks to share their technical skills and expertise with agricultural faculty at the University of Eldoret (UoE). Ron and Craig worked with the UoE School of Agriculture and Biotechnology in revising their undergraduate soil science curriculum and assessing their laboratory resources for enhanced teaching capabilities in soil science. The UoE faculty, administration, and staff recognize the great importance of soil science in helping to meet Kenya’s rapidly growing agricultural and environmental needs.
Ron and Craig’s assignment was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) program, which promotes economic growth, food security, and agricultural development. In East Africa, the program is administered by Catholic Relief Services (CRS). This project is one of nearly 500 CRS-administered assignments that focus on agriculture, food security and nutrition in Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. NRES Alum gets ESRI Award
NRES Graduate (1980) Dr. John Brockhaus is the recipient of the 2016 ESRI Making A Difference Award. Dr. Brockhous earned his Ph.D. at the Unviersity of Idaho and is currently a Professor of Geospatial Information Science and Director of the Geospatial Information Science Program, Dept. of Geography & Environmental Engineering, United States Military Academy (USMA), West Pt., NY.

Dr. Verma and Dr. Piirto, along with Dr. Kate Martin and Elvira Pulitano from Ethnic Studies won the President's Diversity and Inclusivity Award for a campus organization for developing the Minor in Indigenous Studies in Natural Resources & the Environment. Good job and thanks for being great representatives of NRES!!!
