Cal Poly Beef Unit Senior Spotlight!
Travis Smith has worked at the Cal Poly Beef Unit since his freshman year. He recently earned double bachelor’s degrees in Agricultural Systems Management and Agribusiness, and this fall he will begin pursuing a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) at Cal Poly.
Travis says his favorite part of working at the Beef Unit is sharing the cattle industry with students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with livestock. During his time at Cal Poly, he has also served as President of the San Luis Obispo Young Cattlemen’s, where he worked to create opportunities for students to become involved in the cattle industry. In addition, Travis currently serves as National President of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA), representing college rodeo athletes from across the country and helping shape the future of collegiate rodeo.
Through his leadership, service, and dedication to agriculture, Travis has focused on creating opportunities for others while promoting the beef industry which he is incredibly passionate about.
