Cal Poly Symphony Concert: Rach 2 with Elizabeth Dorman is at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Performing Arts Center! Elizabeth Dorman will be the soloist with the Cal Poly Symphony for Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. The symphony will also perform Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espagnol,” and collaborate with the San Luis Obispo Youth Symphony for a performance of Mikhail Glinka’s Overture to "Ruslan and Lyudmila.”

Cal Poly’s Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will present Cal Poly Wind Bands Concert: Stage and Screen at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Performing Arts Center! There will be selections from John Williams’ “Star Wars,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Far and Away” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”; plus music from “Star Trek” and James Bond movies. Sergei Rachmaninoff’s iconic “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” will also be performed. Eleven Music Department faculty members will perform in a Mustang Family Weekend Faculty Showcase at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in Room 218 of the Davidson Music Center (No. 45)! Performers will include vocalists Kaitrin Cunningham and Inga Swearingen, violinist Emily Lanzone, bassists Ken Hustad and Dylan Johnson, flutist Jennifer Jo, clarinetist Sarra Hey-Folick, tubist Stephen Nutt, pianists Idona Cabrinha and Janet Joichi, and percussionist John Astaire. $5 students and $10 general at the door. Cal Poly Symphony and Choirs Concert: 'Symphonic Expressions' is this Saturday! The groups will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Igor Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms.” Beethoven’s symphony is one of the most recognizable pieces of all time, and Stravinsky’s represents the height of his neoclassical period. Cal Poly Spring Jazz Concert: Sounds of Harmony will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Spanos Theatre! The University Jazz Band’s set will include Don Menza’s “Dizzyland,” Ryan Haines’ ballad “There’s a Letter from Home,” and Marshall Gilkes’ “4711 Special.” The Jazz Combos will feature “Inevitable” by one of its members, Oscar Cervarich, plus Ray Barretto’s “Indestructible,” Duke Pearson’s “Jeannine” and more.
