Little Blossoms Childcare and Preschool "Nurturing the Seedlings for Tomorrow's Blooms"
Serving families of SLO since 1996 Lic # 406207514

As the daughter of school teachers I've worked with children all my life. I've been a childcare provider for over 30 years and have made many connections in the community through working with families and their precious children. I value each one of them and strive to give the best care possible in a private home setting.

A nap is not just rest for a preschooler.

It is active work for the brain.

During sleep, the brain takes in everything a child experienced earlier in the day and begins organizing it. Information that was briefly held in short-term memory is processed, strengthened, and stored for later use.

This process is called memory consolidation.

And it is one of the main reasons naps matter.

Research shows that children who nap after learning retain significantly more information compared to those who stay awake. In some cases, learning retention improves by up to 40 percent.

Without that pause, much of what was learned can fade quickly.

The timing of the nap also matters.

Midday naps, especially those lasting around 60 to 90 minutes, allow the brain to enter deeper stages of sleep where this memory processing is most effective. Short or late naps may not provide the same benefit and can interfere with nighttime sleep patterns.

When naps are skipped too early, children may appear more irritable, less focused, and have more difficulty holding onto new information.

This is not just about energy.

It is about how the brain builds knowledge.

Protecting a daily nap is not about slowing your child down.

It is about giving their brain the time it needs to turn small daily experiences into lasting understanding.
