Since the inception of Lucid Motion, we’ve been working to pave the way for more athletes from low-income communities and communities of color to participate in sports like triathlon, where underrepresentation has remained high for decades.

We believe triathlon is more than just a sport. It’s a powerful vehicle for building health, confidence, resilience, and community.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the finish line. We’re here to help make that opportunity more accessible. 🏊🏽‍♂️🚴🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️

Do hard things. Create opportunities. Build community.

If you’re looking ahead to your training schedule for next year’s race season, do yourself a favor and consider adding a Bluetooth bike trainer to your setup. 🚴🏽‍♂️

With a historic El Niño weather pattern expected, indoor training may become a major part of your training routine. And right now could be a great time to find a deal—many athletes are offloading older Bluetooth trainers, and I checked this morning and found some models $100–$150 cheaper than when I last looked nearly a year ago.

A Bluetooth trainer has been an important tool for me personally in building bike fitness and raising my FTP. I also program structured workouts for my athletes that control their power output through platforms like TrainingPeaks Virtual and Zwift, making indoor riding much more purposeful than simply riding the trainer for an hour.

And if you find one, reach out to me at Lucid Motion. I can help you get the most out of it and make your indoor training count toward your race goals.

Do hard things! 💪🏽🚴🏽‍♂️

In my years of coaching, I’ve observed two main types of endurance athletes.

There are those who want to “one and done” a major race—an IRONMAN, ultra, or other big endurance challenge.

And then there are those who want endurance sports to become a consistent part of their lifestyle, but don’t know how to manage training, recovery, and life without eventually burning out.

This is where I can help.

At Lucid Motion, I don’t just train you to smash your race goals. I coach you through the entire year with timely, targeted endurance workouts and strength training that fits your schedule and helps you become fit, strong, and resilient for the long game.

No more crashouts.
No more starting over.
No more one-and-done.

My goal is to help you fall in love with endurance sports, build a sustainable lifestyle around them, and become a lifelong athlete.

Take a lesson from me: don’t skimp on your strength training.

A few weeks ago at IRONMAN New Mexico, I somewhat sabotaged my own race. I was training well. I felt fast. My endurance felt like it was peaking.

What I didn’t realize was that I had been neglecting the resilience of my muscles, ligaments and tendons.

That caught up with me on race day.

At mile 4 of the run, I cramped HARD. The demands of racing at elevation, climbing and in the heat exposed something my endurance fitness couldn’t cover up.

And adequate strength training wouldn’t just have helped me stay resilient—it could have given me the snap and power I needed to run faster.

Triathlon demands that you become a TOTAL ATHLETE.

Someone who takes care of their mind, body, fitness and overall health.

That means strength training isn’t optional. Aim for at least 2 strength sessions per week.

And if you really want to make sure you’re doing the right work at the right time of year, get on a program that understands endurance athletes and knows which lifts, movements and muscle groups need attention throughout your season.

That’s exactly what I do through Lucid Motion—customized strength AND endurance training built around you and your goals.

As I sort through photos and videos to create this post, I get a little caught up in the emotion.

We’re only one week away from IRONMAN Northern California 70.3, where four Lucid Motion racers will line up — three of them first-timers — representing our Pay It Forward program.

I think about their journeys. The struggles they’ve worked through. The moments of doubt. The small victories. The big breakthroughs. The countless hours of training. And the privilege I’ve had to guide them through it all, celebrating their successes and helping them navigate the hard days.

It’s a beautiful sport, and it’s an absolute honor to shepherd these athletes along on this journey.

And it’s not too late to help make their race weekend even more memorable. ❤️

You can donate through the link in our bio to support our Pay It Forward athletes. Maybe your contribution helps one of them purchase their finish-line photos. Maybe it goes toward a little souvenir from the gift shop, or helps put a few dollars toward dinner after the race.

Whatever it goes toward, every penny helps.

And regardless of whether you donate, we are incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported these athletes and this program along the way.

To our four racers: go out there and have great races. We’ll be cheering you on every step, stroke, and pedal of the way.

From the Lucid Motion camp — DO HARD THINGS. 🏊🏽‍♂️🚴🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️

I don’t just want to make you fitter. I want to make you a better athlete.

One of the things I believe strongly in as a coach is teaching athletes about the process, not just handing them a workout and telling them to go do it.

I want you to understand why we’re doing what we’re doing.

Why are we training your aerobic system?
Why does strength training matter for endurance athletes?
Why are we working on mobility, movement patterns, cadence, power, recovery, or technique?
And how do all of these pieces fit together to help you reach your goals?

When you understand the “why” behind your training, you become more invested in the process. You develop more confidence, more ownership, and—most importantly—you stay engaged.

That’s why my coaching combines customized endurance training with individualized strength and mobility work, built around you, your goals, your experience, your schedule, and how your body moves.

The goal isn’t just to get you across the finish line.

It’s to help you understand your body, understand the sport, become a smarter athlete, and build the fitness and performance necessary to accomplish things you may not have thought were possible.

Train with purpose. Learn the process. Become your own best athlete.

If that sounds like your kind of coaching, Lucid Motion has a spot for you. 🏊🏽‍♂️🚴🏽‍♂️🏃🏽‍♂️
