A big thank you to Oregon Shakespeare Festival for bringing live theater to Roosevelt!

Our TK–2nd graders enjoyed Boo!, a delightfully spooky collection of literature featuring Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, and more. A crowd favorite was a hilarious poem Hey, Ma, Something’s under My Bed by Joan Horton.

Our 3rd–5th graders experienced Hamlet, complete with stage combat, puppetry, and plenty of Shakespearean drama.

A special thank you to actors Jacquir and Hannah for their wonderful performances and interactive workshops, where students explored storytelling, characters, and creativity through hands-on activities.

We loved seeing literature come to life at Roosevelt! Thank you, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, for sharing the magic of theater with our Hornets!

What a night at Community on the Green!
Last Thursday, our Roosevelt teachers brought families together for an evening of picnics, music, activities, and plenty of time to just hang out together on the lawn. Mr. Rieder provided the soundtrack while our parent groups brought the fun: Voces Unidas made paper flowers, AAPI made bunny lanterns, LGBTQIA+ Family Alliance made friendship bracelets, Green Hornets brought Cat’s Cradle and an old favorite game, Dad’s Club got kids excited about STEM with vortex demonstrations, and BFC³ created a shadowbox maze inspired by the history of braided hairstyles being used to communicate routes and directions, giving kids a hands-on way to explore a fascinating piece of Black history.

Mr. Fletcher brought out a cart of FREE books for families, and the PTA kept things sweet with a dessert potluck, plus a merch table full of Roosevelt gear.

And we just kept going until the sun went down.
So many kids. So many families. So much happening across the lawn. It was joyful, relaxed, a little chaotic in the best possible way, and such a great reminder of what makes Roosevelt special.

Thank you to our teachers for creating this evening and to everyone who came out and made the Green feel like one big Roosevelt backyard!
