Yesterday, we had the honor of welcoming Maribel Martinez, a poet, writer, and playwright based in San José, into our space.

Maribel guided our girls through a beautiful workshop on embodied joy—inviting them to connect with their bodies through breath, movement, and writing. Through thoughtful prompts, the girls explored what it means to listen to our bodies and create from different parts of ourselves, discovering new ways to express what lives within.

One of the most joyful moments of the day came as Maribel helped the girls transform their writing into song—drawing from the corazoncitos of their words and weaving them into something collective and alive. The room filled with energy, creativity, and pride.

During our closing circle, several girls shared how much they loved learning a new way to engage with writing—one that “was not boring” but dynamic, embodied, and full of possibility.

Gracias Maribel, for sharing your story, craft, and presence with so much cariño. 💜

Moments like these remind us that creativity can move through the body, opening pathways toward expression, release, and joy.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, we honor the legacy of Chicana Latina women who have shaped movements, scholarship, art, and community.

Last week in Liberando, we opened our new theme, Latinx in Education, with a community altar.

Together we gathered books, zines, art, and symbols that reflect the powerful intellectual and cultural traditions we come from—works by women who have written, organized, created, and imagined new possibilities for our communities.

At the center of the altar were texts like Borderlands/La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldúa, Daughters of Latin America, Chicana Feminist Thought, and Chicana Movidas, alongside art, candles, flowers, and other offerings representing the many identities, struggles, and dreams carried within our communities.

Moments like these remind us that our girls are not starting from scratch.

They are stepping into a long lineage of thinkers, artists, storytellers, and changemakers.

It is an honor to hold space for this next generation of Chicana Latina leaders as they find their voices, nurture their creativity, and imagine the futures they will help shape.

Yesterday, we had the deep honor of welcoming Doctora Dulce (Corazón) into our space as a guest facilitator.

Doctora Corazón guided our girls through a powerful love journal practice—a beautiful hybrid of vision boarding, collage-making, and journaling—centered on love, transformation, manifesting, and the magic that unfolds when we give ourselves permission to dream boldly.

This workshop invited our girls to slow down, go inward, and create with intention. Through images, words, and reflection, they explored what Liberando means to them, which palabra is guiding them this year, and the dreams they are calling forward. It was a reminder that creative expression is also a practice of self-trust, manifestation, and possibility.

We are deeply grateful to Doctora Corazón for the care, wisdom, and creative presence she brought into our space, and for offering our girls such a meaningful moment of reflection and dreaming.

Moments like these reflect the heart of Liberando Nuestras Voces—cultivating spaces where girls are seen, heard, and encouraged to imagine liberatory futures.💜

As we close out 2025, we are holding so much gratitude.

This fall, the girls showed up with courage, creativity, and heart. They wrote, reflected, shared, and grew in powerful ways—and we are incredibly proud of them.

We are deeply thankful for the artists who graced our space this semester with their art, wisdom, and cariño, and for the community that continues to uplift this work.

As we head into winter break, we’re honoring the importance of rest and restoration. We wish you and your loved ones a warm, joyful, and nourishing break.

We’ll see you in the new year—excited and ready for the next chapter of Liberando in the spring. 💜

This past Wednesday, our Liberando Nuestras Voces girls participated in a beautiful Canvas Painting Workshop led by visiting artist Elizabeth Jimenez-Montelongo, centered on what it means to be bilingual and bicultural.

Through color, symbols, and storytelling, students explored the layered identities they carry—honoring language, culture, family, and self. The space was filled with creativity, affirmation, and pride as each young artist brought her lived experience to the canvas.

We are deeply thankful to Elizabeth for sharing her artistry, care, and poetry with our community. Moments like these remind us that creativity is not just expression—it is connection, reflection, and wellness.

Yesterday was a profound milestone for Liberando Nuestras Voces. We had the honor of welcoming Reyna Grande into our space—a Latina author whose words have traveled with us through our workshops and whose stories have shaped our conversations about identity, family, and courage.

To share space with her was a gift. She guided our girls through a plática and beautiful writing activity on the home we carry— the memories, tastes, and people that live within us. The room was full of reflection, tenderness, and possibility.

We are deeply grateful for her presence, generosity, and example. Moments like these remind us why creative spaces for Latina girls matter.

✨ Dolls in our hands, historias in our hearts.

This week our girls welcomed our first visiting artist, Ramona Garcia, who led a doll-making workshop filled with creativity, laughter, and cariño. Cada muñeca se convirtió en un reflejo de voz, identidad e imaginación — a reminder that art can heal, connect, and empower.

Through this beautiful process, our girls explored what it means to create from the heart — dar forma a algo con amor y ver sus historias cobrar vida. 💕

We are so grateful to Ramona for bringing your warmth, artistry, and cariño to our space. Gracias por compartir tu luz y por inspirar a nuestras chicas a crear con corazón.
