FALL VEGETABLE GARDENING
Saturday - September 19, 2026
9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Location: Outdoors at the South Texas Master Gardener Educational Garden, 509 East Earling Road in San Juan, Texas.
Program is FREE; but, seating is limited.

You will:
Learn the basics to grow cool season vegetables
Learn tips for a successful harvest
You will do some hands-on activities
Bring your garden gloves

Registration is now open for two exciting gardening workshops hosted by our Texas Master Gardeners!

Join us on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for our Desert Rose Care and Grafting Workshop ($25), where Master Gardener Volunteers will teach you how to care for and graft desert roses through a fun, hands-on experience. Participants will receive a desert rose plant, grafting cuttings, all necessary materials, and will take home your own desert rose plant. Then, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., discover the beauty of orchids at our Orchids for the Rio Grande Valley Workshop ($30). Learn which orchid varieties thrive in our local climate, and take home an orchid to enjoy.

Both workshops will be held at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, 410 N. 13th Avenue, Edinburg, TX 78541. Seating is limited, so be sure to register early using the registration form. For more information, call (956) 383-1026.

🌿🎉 Congratulations to our newest Texas Master Gardeners! 🎉🌿

Please join us in welcoming Kevin Cruthirds, Patricia Cruthirds, Olga Higuera, Ruben Lemus, Patti Ross Loya, Arturo Palacios, Ben Vasquez, and Gabriela Agredano to our Texas Master Gardener family. We are excited to have these dedicated volunteers join our organization as they continue their journey of learning, and service to our community.

We were also honored to award a $1,000 scholarship to Aubry Gomez. This scholarship was established in memory of fellow Master Gardener Rick Leland, whose passion for education and service continues to inspire others. We wish Aubry great success as she pursues her educational goals and future career in dentistry. 🦷📚

Additionally, we recognized Ricardo Carranza for an incredible 15 years of service as a Texas Master Gardener. Ricardo's dedication, volunteerism, and commitment to sharing knowledge have made a lasting positive impact on our community. Thank you for your years of service and for helping make the Rio Grande Valley a greener and more beautiful place.

If you see Ricardo this Saturday at the Firemen's Farmers Market in McAllen, be sure to congratulate him on this well-deserved milestone! 🌿👏💚
