Great day out in the community working on a colonia clean-up with Hidalgo County Precinct 1 and the Hidalgo Urban County Program.

A big thank you to UT Austin’s Alternative Breaks group for showing up and putting in the work. Their team worked side by side with our staff and Hidalgo County Precinct 1 staff to help remove trash and improve the conditions around these homes.

Gran día trabajando en la comunidad en una limpieza de colonia junto con Hidalgo County Precinct 1 y el Hidalgo Urban County Program.

Un gran agradecimiento al grupo Alternative Breaks de UT Austin por su apoyo y disposición para trabajar. Su equipo trabajó de la mano con nuestro personal y el staff de Hidalgo County Precinct 1 para retirar basura y mejorar las condiciones alrededor de los hogares.

Today we filmed at our CASSitas homes to talk about simple ways families can keep their homes cooler and lower energy use. We talked about things like insulation, sealing windows, adding door thresholds, and other small fixes that can help both new and existing homes handle the extreme heat we experience in our region. Hoy estuvimos grabando en nuestras CASSitas para hablar sobre maneras sencillas de mantener las casas más frescas y reducir el consumo de energía. Hablamos de cosas como la insulación, sellar ventanas, instalar sellos en las puertas y otros ajustes pequeños que pueden ayudar tanto a casas nuevas como existentes a manejar mejor el calor extremo de nuestra región. Proyecto Azteca is proud to introduce CASSitas, a new housing initiative named in honor of Ms. Ann Cass, former Executive Director and a pioneer in affordable housing who was deeply respected throughout our community.

As construction moves forward, this program continues her legacy of expanding homeownership opportunities for families across our region.

Mientras continúa la construcción, este programa sigue su legado de ampliar las oportunidades de vivienda para familias en nuestra región.

Affordable housing is a concern everywhere, but the city of La Villa is working on a new project aimed at helping families obtain homeownership.
