The new ranch community of Rancho Mission Viejo is comprised of more than 17,000 acres of permanent open space and 6,000 acres of future residential and mixed-use development. Encompassing 690 acres and offering approximately 940 attached and detached homes and 200 apartment units, Sendero will include the gated active adult enclave of Gavilan, providing 285 single-level residences adjacent to a private clubhouse and recreational facilities. Among the amenities planned for all Sendero residents are a centrally located community hall, clubhouse and recreational core, a 15-acre community park, neighborhood parks, hiking/biking trails accessing Reserve trails and a County Regional hiking and biking trails network, a 10-acre retail plaza, fire station, and a child day care center. Sendero and Gavilan homebuilders will include:

Meet your neighbor: the Least Bell's Vireo 🐦

This small gray songbird might be hard to spot, but you'll definitely hear it. Some males know up to 15 different songs, making them one of the most musical neighbors on The Ranch.

Each spring, these migratory birds travel all the way from their wintering grounds in Southern Mexico, arriving on The Nature Reserve in late March to early April to breed in willow riparian habitats. They favor dense, shrubby cover along streams and dry arroyos, where they forage for insects, spiders, and small berries, often plucking their meals right off the leaves.

Least Bell's Vireo was federally listed as an endangered species in 1986, making their return to The Ranch each year even more special.
That's the kind of neighbor worth knowing.

RMV Fights ALZ is currently the top fundraising team in the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s! As of today, they have already reached 113% of their fundraising goal, and they're still growing as we get closer to Walk Day!

RMV Fights ALZ has many contributing members eager to support the cause, with members going door to door to promote it and working with Clubs & Programmers in the community to fundraise.

Breaking ground on hands-on growing 🌱🍅

Coming Early 2027: A brand-new greenhouse and garden space in the Village of Rienda, designed for neighbors to plant, grow, and flourish together. Run through RMV Farms, this space will be an extension of our current farm program, growing our roots in both farming and gardening. This 900 sq. ft. greenhouse comes fully equipped for a functional growing operation, complete with a gated garden area, raised planter beds, and a composting station just outside.
With a fruit tree grove, a shaded BBQ and picnic area overlooking the canyon, and a firepit for evening gatherings, this isn’t just a garden, it’s a gathering place built for everyday connection.

Today is National Wildlife Day, a time to recognize endangered species and the importance of protecting the wild spaces they call home.

The Nature Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo is home to several threatened and endangered species – check out a few in the image above! This growing habitat reserve helps preserve and enhance local land for ecological, educational, charitable, and recreational uses.

As part of Rancho Mission Viejo’s Culture of Care, we invite you to learn more about local wildlife and how you can help protect endangered species in our own backyard.
