SJSU Latino Alumni Network

SJSU Latino Alumni Network Our mission is to increase the diversity of the professional workforce in Silicon Valley. We are working towards raising funds for this at the moment.

About our network:

As of November of 2013, we were established as a partner with the SJSU Alumni Association. Our goal is to get Alumni to connected or reconnect through our networking events. We hope that by establishing the SJSU Latino Alumni Network will open doors for inactive alumni to be part of an organization and help bring visibility to the already established SJSU Alumni Association. We

encourage all Latino Alumni and graduating SJSU seniors from all majors to join the organization and help create a strong and versatile network. The SJSU Latino Alumni Network will strengthen the overall SJSU Alumni Association objectives by hosting networking events and contributing to the overall Spartan spirit. We are not only encouraging Alumni to join us but also students and professors. We hope that by having our students be involved they can take something from their Alumni that are in the fields of their interest, learn to be in a social setting among professionals, and hopefully can build their own networks to find internships that Alumni can offer from current employers. We also hope to establish scholarship/s for current and incoming students. Our mission is to promote higher education within the rising demographic of Latinos to encourage and give the opportunity of a college education via our annual scholarship.

We had a fantastic time connecting over dinner with SJSU President Cynthia Teniente Matson! It was the perfect opportunity to get to know each other better and brainstorm ways our board and SJSU can team up to support our local youth and community this school year. 🌟 Spartan Spotlight 🌟

Meet Emilio Cortez, a proud alum of SJSU who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Art (Studio Practice) in 2014. Emilio’s journey post-graduation took him through various impactful roles, showcasing his dedication to art, education, and community engagement.

After freelancing in mural projects and custom commissions, Emilio found his passion in uplifting the community through art. His work at the Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley and the San Francisco 49ers’ EDU program allowed him to merge art and education, introducing STEAM concepts to students. Thereafter, as a Community Engagement Specialist at The Tech Interactive, Emilio continued to enrich diverse communities with STEM resources and programming. His artistic talents have shone brightly, including painting the Lombardi Trophy for Super Bowl LX, garnering accolades in sports and community engagement.

Emilio’s contributions have not gone unnoticed, earning him prestigious recognitions such as inclusion in the Latinos 40 Under 40 Silicon Valley award and being named Community Member of the Game at a San Jose Barracuda event. We look forward to seeing Emilio’s future achievements and impact!

We are still buzzing from the energy at our annual Legacy Dinner! This year was incredibly special as we celebrated a major milestone—15 years of coming together to make a difference.

A massive thank you to our incredible keynote speaker, Robert A. Rivas, our wonderful Master of Ceremony, Tamara Awardo, and SJSU President, Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, for sharing their time and inspiring words with us.
