In Dr. Flynn-Everett’s class, students co-created an anchor chart asking, “What is the text mainly about?” to show how main ideas are supported by details. This collaborative chart became a powerful tool for learning, as students practiced identifying a main idea and connecting it to supporting details. One student proudly stepped into a leadership role by presenting the chart to his peers, taking on the role of teacher as he explained his thinking and guided classmates through the process.

Moments like this show the impact of student voice and ownership in the classroom. By sharing his learning with confidence, this student not only reinforced his own understanding but also lifted the learning of everyone in the room. It is a vivid example of how Railway Rockets are building a community where students belong, lead, and succeed together.

On the first day of school, Railway Elementary welcomed a very special guest— Mayor Michael Vargas of Perris. Greeted by Principal Dr. Michael Lozano, the Mayor joined students, families, and staff on the red carpet to celebrate the start of the school year. Together, they posed for photos with excited students, creating a festive and memorable atmosphere. Mayor Vargas’s visit highlighted the strong partnership between the City of Perris and Railway Elementary School of Math, Science, and Technology, making the morning’s celebration an inspiring kickoff to the new school year.

Asking that you wear a face mask is not about controlling you but controlling the virus. The more people who mask up, the more activities we can resume. If we work to crush the curve, schools and businesses will be able to reopen sooner, and we can return to activities and people we love.
