AMC 8 and AMC 10 Competition Prep Classes are open for registration 🎉

These classes are built specifically for students preparing for or exploring AMC competitions. We work directly with the style of thinking these exams require: nonstandard problems, pattern recognition, creative strategies, and learning how to stay calm and think clearly when the solution is not obvious.

If your child enjoys math but sometimes gets stuck on harder problems or doesn’t know how to even begin, this is exactly the kind of training you need.

Competition math is knowing how to think when the path isn’t obvious. In our classes, students don’t just practice problems. They learn how to break them down, look for patterns, test ideas, and stay with a problem instead of giving up. That’s where real growth happens.

We work in small groups, which means every student is involved, thinking, explaining, and learning from others. The goal is not just to solve more problems, but to become more confident and independent thinkers.

Whether your child is preparing for AMC 8 or ready for the next level with AMC 10, we focus on the kinds of problems that build strong problem-solving habits and make students feel much more in control on test day 💡

📅 Classes run June 22nd - August 9th (7 weeks)
💵 Cost: $400 for the full 7-week session
💻 Format: Live online, small group, 1.5-hour

What usually happens at family events?
Parents watch. Kids participate. Everyone goes home tired 😅 A day later, most people barely remember what they even did.

Our Alice in Wonderland Math Quest in Boston is built differently.

Here, parents and kids work together. They argue over clues, spot patterns the other missed, get stuck on puzzles, laugh, ask for hints, and slowly make their way through Wonderland as a team.

And honestly, those are usually the moments families remember most.

This is not a math competition and not a school lesson! It is a big interactive game inspired by Alice in Wonderland, where families unlock pieces of the mystery one puzzle at a time, with math, logic, and discovery woven naturally into the adventure.

🫖 A chaotic tea party
🌿 A mysterious garden
👑 The Queen’s court
🎩 Clues hidden all around Wonderland

If you’re in the Boston area, come play with Studio of Engaging Math and EMC on May 31 ☀️

Why timing decides everything on the SAT ⏱️

Even strong students run out of time.

Not because they are slow, but because the test quietly forces decisions. Spend too long on one problem, and it steals time from three others. Rush too fast, and small mistakes start to add up.

What makes it tricky is that most students were never really taught how to manage time like this.

They know how to solve problems.
But they don’t know when to move on.
When to skip.
When to come back.

And in a timed test, that changes everything.

Good timing is not about working faster. It’s about thinking strategically. Knowing how to navigate the test, not just solve it.

The students who feel calm and in control on the SAT are not guessing less. They’re managing their time better.

And that’s a skill you can actually train.

This is exactly what we work on in our SAT prep course, along with many other practical strategies and important moments that students can use on the test.

If you want your child to feel confident, not rushed, and actually in control of their time, NOW is the moment to start.

We’re starting very soon, May 26, do not lose this chance to become more confident: https://www.emc.school/event/psat-sat-class?utm_source=post&utm_medium=ads&utm_campaign=sat 🚀

We often think of summer as a complete break, and in many ways it should be. Kids need time to relax and enjoy.

But the brain works more like a muscle than a switch. When it’s used regularly, it stays active and strong. When it’s left completely unused for months, it doesn’t disappear, but it does slow down.

That’s why the start of the school year can feel harder than expected. Kids don’t suddenly forget everything, they just haven’t been using those thinking skills.

The good news is that it doesn’t take much to keep things going. A few interesting problems, a short activity, something that makes them think. When it feels light and engaging, it doesn’t feel like extra work.

This is exactly the idea behind our summer programs. Not more school, just enough thinking to keep the brain active, confident, and ready 🧠

So join us, let’s keep those brains active and growing together this summer. RSPV: https://www.emc.school/summer-programs

Why do strong students lose points on the SAT?

It’s not because they don’t know the math.

Students who do well in school walk into the SAT and suddenly lose points on questions they actually can solve. Not because they forgot something, but because the test is designed differently.

There’s pressure. There are traps. There are questions that look familiar but are phrased just enough to throw them off.

And in that moment, it’s not about knowledge anymore. It’s about how they think.🧠

Do they pause and analyze, or rush into the first idea?
Do they notice patterns, or get stuck in one approach?
Do they catch the trick, or fall into it?

That’s why preparing for the SAT isn’t just reviewing topics. It’s learning how to approach problems under pressure and stay clear even when the question is confusing.

This is exactly what we focus on in our SAT prep course. We don’t just teach math, we teach how to think clearly in stressful situations, how to approach unfamiliar problems, and how to build real confidence going into the test.💡

If you want your child to walk into the SAT feeling calm, prepared, and in control, this is the kind of preparation you need!
