Each week, students are encouraged to be curious and creative. We are always learning about how music is notated and constructed, but students are also given the tools to make their music more artistic and unique.
Inspiration is what keeps us going on our musical journey. Learning an instrument takes persistence, and if you stick with it long enough, you may encounter frustrations and plateaus along the way. Meaningful music, achievable goals, and performance opportunities help students discover that progress is built step by step. Each challenge they overcome strengthens not only their skills at the piano, but their confidence in themselves.
And finally, community.
Learning alongside others fosters accountability and empathy. When students learn together, they cheer each other on, they show up for each other, and sometimes, they even teach each other.
Collaborative music-making is a cornerstone in our studio. To successfully play with others, musicians must know their piece well, keep a steady beat, and recover quickly from mistakes. They must also support the sound of the whole ensemble, not just their part. We learn that being a musician means more than playing accurately—it means listening, adapting, and contributing to something bigger than ourselves.
To me, this is what being a musician is all about.
