I know this doesn't impact everyone but I recently did a podcast on S*xtortion and it is a very very serious issue.

If you're a parent you need to know this because 70% of the cases of s*xtortion involve minors. Or if you know someone struggling please share this podcast with them.

"S*xtortion is when an online predator tricks someone into giving them n**e images or videos, and then demands money, more images, or makes other demands—threatening to share the images with the victim's friends and family if they don't comply.
More and more of my clients are getting extorted by criminals when they do stupid things and reveal personal information about themselves when they meet someone online."

I draw the analogy to fentanyl - back in the old days I could buy he**in and didn't think twice that it was contaminated (ignorant yes, but still, it's different now). Now you have to assume you're getting fentanyl and could die. Obviously, I don't do that anymore because I'm healthy - however, knowing I could die is a great deterrent.

I have clients getting extorted by escorts, massage parlors, s*xting relationships, affair partners, etc ...

S*xtortion was something that I never encountered when I started 12 years ago. Now I see it all the time because criminals leverage the shame and secrecy to exploit my client's vulnerability and poor decision-making.

In a 10-year+ study, "the teens’ still immature brains suffered changes that adversely affected intellectual function, physical coordination, mental health, development, and overall well-being."

A recent study highlights the alarming effects of internet addiction on teen brains. UCLA researchers found that compulsive screen time disrupts brain function, leading to issues like anxiety, depression, and impaired decision-making. This addiction also affects physical health, social skills, and overall well-being.

At The Mindful Habit, we so often deal with internet addiction in adults. Try putting that phone down for a day and you'll get a sense of what I mean. We try to emphasize the importance of mindful use of technology for adults. 🌟

📱 New York Mulling Smartphone Ban in Schools! 📱

I SAY GOOD!!!!!!!

Governor Kathy Hochul is considering a statewide ban on smartphones in New York schools to combat the negative effects of social media on student mental health. Officials argue that constant phone use distracts students, fosters bullying, and promotes addictive behaviors. This move aims to help students reconnect with their classwork and each other without digital distractions.

The earlier the addiction starts the harder it is to overcome!!!! What wires together, fires together!!!!

This proposed ban highlights the critical issue of addiction, even in seemingly everyday habits - our phones are literally killing some of us ... slowly.

🚀 **Food for Thought: Are Ultra-Processed Foods Affecting Your Mental Health?** 🚀

What you put in your body has a huge impact on your physical health and mental health. In fact, I don't even see these two things as different. Mental health = physical health and physical health = mental health. Mind is body body is mind!!!

Here's another powerful reason to put only great things into your body. Check this out ... A recent study highlights a concerning link between ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and mental health. Researchers found that high consumption of UPFs—like snacks, sweets, and fast food—is associated with increased anxiety, depression, and more "mentally unhealthy days."

These foods, engineered for convenience and taste, may trigger the same brain circuits as addictive substances like ni****ne and alcohol, making it hard to eat them in moderation.

When I read these studies, I couldn't help but reflect on how difficult life is for so many people. Life. Is. Hard.

It's amazing how much we are learning about the impact of our mental state along with personal connection on our physical health. Did you know that loneliness is connected to an increase in strokes?

Chronic loneliness significantly increases the risk of stroke among older adults, according to a study by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The research found that those experiencing persistent loneliness had a 56% higher risk of stroke compared to those who were not lonely. This highlights the critical need for interventions targeting loneliness.

It's crazy how "connected" we are and how lonely so many people really are. I hope this makes you want to connect if even for a little bit. Your body and soul will thank you for it. That friend that you've been meaning to call probably needs the call too.

Parents, it's waaaaay worse than you think ......

Alarming news: Instagram is recommending s*xual content to 13-year-olds within minutes of logging in according to a recent article in the Wall Streee Journal!

Tests show that after just a few interactions, teen feeds are flooded with explicit videos, including offers for n**e photos.

This is a wake-up call for all parents. It's crucial to monitor our kids' online activity and have open discussions about internet safety.

More screen time = more mental health issues.

Yowzer these are some powerful statistics in favor of getting involved in the community. It's one of the many reasons I joined South Placer Rotary Club.

“Loneliness and social isolation increase the risk for premature death by 26% and 29% respectively,” says US Surgeon General.

“More broadly, lacking social connection can increase the risk for premature death as much as smoking up to 15 ci******es a day.

In addition, poor or insufficient social connection is associated with increased risk of disease, including a 29% increased risk of heart disease and a 32% increased risk of stroke.

Furthermore lonliness "is associated with increased risk for anxiety, depression and dementia. Additionally, the lack of social connection may increase susceptibility to viruses and respiratory illness.”

Go to church. Play pinballs Das Flipperhaus. Join a club. Call a friend. Relationship health is mental health and physical health.

Yowzer ... did you see this? Excessive sweets in childhood shown to reduce memory as adults potentially permanently ... sugar can be poison if used incorrectly. Enjoy that sweet piece of cake or candy ... savor it..... hmmmmmmmm ... but do so in moderation.

PSA sometimes the easy way isn't the healthy way.

The fastest-growing demographic of men taking erectile dysfunction medication is younger men between the ages of 18 to 31 (Calzo et al., 2020).

More and more men are using ED pills as a performance-enhancing drug with not just their partners, but when they are flying solo. I am seeing this more and more!!! It's actually a little alarming!!

Men are using these drugs with serious side effects that are ruining lives. The global erectile dysfunction medication market will hit $3 billion very soon. There are powerful forces exploiting our vulnerability and insecurities.

Most of these men are struggling with underlying physical and mental health issues. These are my clients. These are brothers we help by treating the root cause issues. We've been doing it for 12 years.

I'm so glad my rockbottom came before the invention of Only Fans, thirst traps, Digital AI girlfriends and all the other horrors that are men and boys have to fight against.

Many men aren't wired for the current environment!!!!

Men are lonely and they are suffering and I completely understand how a pill might sound like the right solution. These pills should only be used when prescribed by a confident physician.

Intimacy is hard—no pun intended. Connection is hard, and let's face it, life is really hard.
