Our ceramicists kicked off the year by creating these teeny tiny sculptures! Students challenged themselves to work within a size limit of just 1 to 6 inches, with each artist interpreting “tiny” in their own way.

Our 4Pd Bobcats ventured to Raynor Park with Dr. Singh for a hands on science terrarium trip! Students explored what it takes to create a thriving terrarium and learned how living and nonliving components work together to form a balanced ecosystem. Mr. Ear’s Grade 7 Visual Arts students put their chalk skills to the test! After spending three days studying character proportions, students brought their knowledge to the pavement and drew their characters freehand in chalk, even with a little rain along the way. Ms. Gao’s Grade 3 music class is finding fun ways to build community! Students learned the “Irish Stew” folk dance to welcome new classmates, practice teamwork, listen for musical cues, and learn how to work together as a new class.

For Meet the Teacher Night, Ms. Gao taught the dance to parents too, giving families a chance to experience what students have been learning in music. Everyone had a great time learning and dancing together! Enjoy these videos!

In Dr. Allendoerfer’s first Honors Biology lab of the year, students got right to work using the scientific method. They made observations, developed hypotheses, collected data, and worked together to investigate the behavior of a familiar childhood creature: the roly poly.

Students set up wet and dry chambers to observe whether the pill bugs, which are actually small crustaceans related to crabs, showed a preference for moisture. Through this hands-on investigation, students practiced experimental design, data collection, and teamwork while exploring how organisms respond to their environment.

A great way to start the year with some hands-on science!

In their very first homeroom and reading class of the school year, our 2Ba Bobcats discovered The Book with No Pictures by B. J. Novak. The book sparked a thoughtful question: If a book can work without pictures, what would a classroom be like without expectations?

Through discussion, our students explored why expectations matter and created their own classroom promises. With their promises in place, our Grade 2B Bobcats are ready for a wonderful year ahead!
