What is it that I do?
I have struggled for a long time to identify succinctly what it is I do - both professionally and personally!
One of the first things a fellow horse person asks you when you meet is “what do you do (with your horse) ?” My answer has always been “A little bit of everything!” - which always feels lacking.
Professionally, I have felt challenged in the description box, because there is no one discipline I can claim as my focus. I am not just an eventing coach, a dressage coach, a liberty trainer etc… I have never felt like any of those specific titles encompassed the things I know and love to teach. There is so much to share, that one label and box just isnt quite right!
When I see those discipline specific labeled coaches, to me, I see teachers of the icing on the cake. People who you should seek out after you have baked yourself a solid cake. If you want to succeed in any particular competition arena (or even just in a sport for fun), you need to have some key foundation pieces in place first.
This is where I come in! I bake cakes!
I teach people how to train their horses from the ground up. I can teach you how to get your foundation so solid, that any question you wish to ask your horse in the future will come with an easy yes answer. If you have holes or cracks in your foundation cake, adding more icing won’t fix things - but finding out where you can reinforce your weaknesses outside of sport can propel you in the direction you want to go.
A high level of understanding and foundation progression is what I bring to the table for my students. I love to share how to take a horse and human at any level of development and help them feel successful in every step of their journey together.
How good can each moment with your horse be?

My favorite part of sharing new ideas with students - hearing about how they will be different and what perspective shifts they have made with new ideas and information :D

Nanaimo Equestrian Association - 2300 Bowen Road, Nanaimo. BC
May 6 and 7, 2023, join the Nanaimo Equestrian Association in welcoming Ashley Bradspies for a ‘Learn to Ride Bridleless Clinic’.
Don’t worry, you won’t be required to take off your bridle for this clinic (unless you and your horse are ready and want to). The indoor arena has been booked for this event so there is no worry about the weather.
We will learn how to have less reliance on our reins, steer with seat and leg aids, refine our riding cues with a better seat connection and discover how our current posture is impacting our horse. All while deepening our connection and the conversation we have with our horse when riding them so removal of the bridle becomes a possibility.
All riding levels and disciplines are welcome. Ashley is a talented, patient and compassionate coach who will support you with whichever part of the bridleless journey you are on, whether you’re just beginning or need the finishing touches to ensure your success.
Small groups of no more than 4 for lots of one on one instruction.
Cost is 300$ for the weekend which includes 2, 2 hour lessons. A deposit of $150 is required to book your spot with the remainder due at the clinic.
If you’d rather just watch, take notes and learn from the multiple riders then come on out and audit. Auditors are welcome but must pay in advance for planning purposes, 50$/day or $75/weekend.
Deposits and auditor fees can be forwarded to [email protected] with a note in the comments ‘brideless clinic rider/auditor’.

When I taught down in Arroyo Grande, the lovely Susan from Equine VIP came and chatted with me about bridleless riding!
Check it out here 😊😊

Hi! I am Ashley from Jaxvale Horsemanship, a natural horsemanship (though you will probably hear me say relationship based training more often!) instructor, and former licensed Parelli professional of 13years😊 Originally from Ontario, Canada, I am just starting to reach out in the area I now call home. I LOVE meeting new people and their horses and helping them have the success of their dreams!
If you and your horse are looking for the missing piece, to fill a hole in your foundation, or even to put some icing on your already fabulous cake, I would love to share my experience with you.
As a freelance coach, I am more than happy to travel to you – that means no worrying about trailer travel or having to move your horse to another facility.
My time in the Parelli program has given me a solid understanding of horse behavior, and my personal continuing education with my mentors outside of that program has led me to even broader knowledge of how to create the best relationships we can with our horses. I love teaching students how to create conversations with their horses at every level. Whether you are new to horses, or have had them all of your life – there is always another layer of excellence to strive for!
Private lessons start at $85/hour, with mileage fees depending on location. I am also available to put on clinics or workshops, with and without horses. Lesson topics can include (but certainly aren’t limited to!) Basic ground work for horses of any age – from improving barn manners to teaching self carriage, Liberty work, building foundation riding skills that will make any sport easy, bridleless riding, or even problem solving things like standing for the farrier or trailer loading.
I am based out of San Jose and happy to come to your barn in the greater Bay area. If you have any questions, or want to schedule a lesson, please feel free to send me a message at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or here on facebook 😊
