Imagine being a high school student watching actual criminal courtroom proceedings and then having the judge, district attorneys, and public defenders explain what happened. What an amazing learning opportunity!
Our students gained so much insight, including why a defendant would plead "no contest" to vehicular manslaughter and how there are many pathways to becoming a judge or attorney.
Thank you to Judge Johnny Gogo for inviting the team into the courthouse, as well as all the attorneys and court staff for sharing their time and expertise.
This field trip also wouldn't have been possible without Coaches Rascher and Nguyen, Principal Lilly, and the Lincoln High School Foundation.
Finally, the students asked thoughtful questions, took notes, and were respectful during the courthouse visit!

In our first field trip in over a decade, students visited Santa Clara University and its law school. Our students spoke with California Supreme Court Justice (retired) Edward Panelli, as well as a former Deputy District Attorney and a defence attorney from the Innocence Project. This engaging and educational trip couldn't have happened without Santa Clara Law student org Street Law and SCU Professor Chan Thai (a Lincoln High School Mock Trial Team alum). We also thank our principal and the Lincoln High School Foundation for their support!
