Do you know what the word gallinaceous means? Most of us didn’t either, but we had a gallinaceous meeting anyway listening to Thanksgiving stories over table topics and being inspired and captivated by our three amazing speakers! Congratulations to our table topics winner, Elena, best evaluator, Sue, runner up speaker, Dennis, and winning speaker, Maria. 👏👏

In keeping with our club’s “heritage,” our members delivered yet another exceptional meeting! Congratulations to Martin for winning Best Evaluator, Katty for Best Table Topics, and Sue for Best Speaker. One of our newest members, Peter, won runner-up speaker, staying close to the meeting theme of “roots” in his ice breaker speech. Well done, everyone! 👏👏

We had our second lecture of the Fall Lecture Series and Declan lectured on leadership and coaching. He used the GROW method to walk us through some group problem solving. Short presentations were given on how to resolve the problem given.

We held our first lecture of the Fall Lecture Series on Oct 30 and it was a great success. Elaine explained how to give a great evaluation and how to bring a winning desire to a contest and to anything you wish to accomplish in life. We explored how to listen better using an improv exercise that was interactive and fun.
Don’t miss our next lectures:
Nov 6, Declan Shalvey will discuss leadership.
Nov 13, Dennis Dawson will discuss how to tell your original stories.
Nov 20, Janet Hebert will discuss how she won the District 101 International Contest and how to write and re-write a winning speech.
Please sign up if you haven’t already!

Our Toastmasters and guests were “enfranchised” with an exceptional meeting this week. First of all, two new members were inducted - Peter and Kate - an official welcome to them to San Jose Toastmasters! Another major highlight was a phenomenal speech by Declan on why fear isn’t such a bad thing. Well done!! And finally, cngratulations to our table topics winner, Oga, for his speech on why he’d like to have dinner with James Bond!

Last week’s meeting gave our newest members a chance to shine! Oga (wearing the crown) was inducted and Doug, one of our newer members, won best speaker with his icebreaker speech. And finally, Marilyn won best table topics for her speech about a snake’s “infatuation” with a turtle - very fitting given our theme of star-crossed love ❤️
