And that's a wrap. Summer Conservatory 2018 was a smashing success and our student workshop performance was amazing tonight! Registration and auditions for next summer will be in January. 'Til next year!

What a week! Summer Conservatory was rocking the stage at the Rothschild Performing Arts Center.

Our students were busy with classes in Voice and Movement, Scene Study, Shakespeare as well as afternoon rehearsals for our amazing upcoming shows. And we are so grateful for the talents shared by our guest artists Walter Mayes and Michael D. Cohen (thank you Connect Studios!). Don't forget to mark your calendars for next Friday's showcase - three productions will be on display at 7pm in The Patil Theater. Week one is complete and what an awesome time we had! Shows are cast, workshops were amazing and we are so grateful to our friends Studios for bringing Portia Scott on Friday for our Voice Over Intensive. Best of all, our 50 students, teachers and interns rock.

THE ART OF SPECIFICITY
What do acting teachers mean when they say "you're being general" or "be more specific"? We'll take a look at how to make a scripted scene come to life by exploring how to create "moments". These are moments that you find in a script where you can mimic what you do in real life to make the scene much more real, fun and.... specific!

TV COMEDY
We'll look at scripts from TV comedies and explore what makes them funny (or not), and how the actor's choices can bring them to life. We'll look at timing, nailing the joke, and physicality along with hints as to how to find the best tone for different kinds of comedies. We'll practice being real and truthful despite the temptation to ham it up.

For those of you interested in Conservatory Intensive, requirements for the video audition will be provided after your online registration is complete. Submission are due by Monday 2/19 (extensions can be granted on a case-by-case basis).

Calling all Actors! Harker is excited to announce a brand new summer program at our new performing arts center beginning summer of 2018. This program will be open to all Bay Area students. Follow this page to see updates and how to apply as the program develops!

Summer @ The Conservatory
This initial offering from the Conservatory will focus on theater technique development and performance. Summer @ The Conservatory will bring together the very best Bay Area educators to help students develop skills through a variety of acting classes, workshops, master classes and performances. We have two programs, The Conservatory Presents and Conservatory Intensive, currently in the planning stages and would love your feedback on them via the short survey linked at the bottom. The third program, Conservatory College Audition Prep, is for seniors only, students from all schools are welcome.

1. The Conservatory Presents: grades 5-9
This program will be for incoming grade 5-9 students who have a love for theater. The focus will be on morning technique classes with a variety of required and elective courses, and afternoon rehearsals for a performance in the brand new Harker Performing Arts Center. Students will be grouped by experience level for their mandatory acting classes to ensure appropriately challenging material for all levels.
In addition, a Leadership in Training program is being developed for high school students wishing to intern, stage-manage or assistant direct.

2. Conservatory Intensive: grades 10-12
By audition only, this intensive program is designed for rising 10th-12th graders passionate about expanding their knowledge of theater in both the classroom and through a live one-act performance at the end of the program in our state-of-the art theater. Students will have morning classes in advanced acting techniques led by industry professionals both from the Bay Area as well as workshops led by television and/or movie actors and directors. This program is meant to further the education gained in The Conservatory Presents and students will be required to have attended this program – or a similar one in the area – prior to auditioning for Conservatory Intensive.

3. Conservatory College Audition Prep: seniors only
This weeklong "boot camp" is for rising seniors who plan to attend live auditions for conservatories or college programs, or who want to create a college arts supplement in theater or musical theater. Each day will be spent analyzing audition and supplement material, in one-on-one, group and master classes, culminating in a live mock audition day with industry professionals. All students will leave with a recorded final product appropriate for college application arts supplements and first-round video submissions for college/conservatory auditions.
