Ash Wednesday • Beginning of Lent
Today, on Ash Wednesday, we enter the holy season of Lent—a time of prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and conversion of heart. As we receive ashes, we are reminded that we are called not only to repent, but to live the Gospel more fully.
At Chavez Family Vision, we remember Cesar Chavez as a deeply devoted Catholic whose faith shaped every part of his life and leadership. For Cesar, faith was not confined to Sunday worship—it was lived out in service to the poor, the dignity of workers, nonviolence, and the unwavering belief that every human person is created in the image of God.
This Lent, Pope Leo has invited us to give up “harsh words”—a powerful call in a world so often marked by division, cruelty, and fear. What a fitting Lenten practice for our time. Words have the power to wound, but they also have the power to heal, restore, and build bridges.
Cesar Chavez lived this Gospel truth. He chose compassion over anger, justice over indifference, and love over violence. He stood in solidarity with immigrants, farmworkers, and all those pushed to the margins—echoing Christ’s call to care for “the least of these.”
As we journey through Lent, may we:
Fast from harsh and hateful words
Pray for immigrants, workers, and families in need
Give generously of our time, resources, and voices
Work for justice with humility, mercy, and love
May this sacred season renew our hearts and strengthen our commitment to live the faith as Cesar did—rooted in Christ, guided by conscience, and grounded in love.
“Sí se puede” — with faith, compassion, and grace. ✝️🕊️

Today we join the world in remembering and honoring the life of the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, a true champion of justice, compassion, and faith whose work echoed the spirit of leaders like César E. Chávez.
Rev. Jackson devoted his life to lifting up the voices of the marginalized, walking beside the oppressed, and calling all of us to live out the Gospel’s call to love our neighbors as ourselves. As a protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a tireless advocate for civil rights, and an ordained man of God, he fought courageously for equality, dignity, and human rights for every person.
Like César Chávez, Rev. Jackson believed that our faith must move us into action — that serving others is not only a moral imperative, but a spiritual calling. His legacy reminds us that the work of justice is sacred work, and that hope — grounded in love — can transform hearts and communities.
As we mourn his passing, let us also give thanks for a life poured out in service. May we carry forward his message of faith, courage, and compassion, and may God comfort his family and all who grieve.
“Keep hope alive” — a legacy of faith, perseverance, and love that will continue to inspire.
Presidents’ Day Reflection | Chavez Family Vision
On this Presidents’ Day, we pause to reflect not only on leadership, but on the values that make leadership worthy of honor—justice, courage, humility, and care for the most vulnerable.
At Chavez Family Vision, we remain firmly grounded in the principles lived and taught by Cesar Chavez. César reminded us that true leadership is measured not by power, but by service; not by exclusion, but by dignity; not by fear, but by love for humanity.
As we honor this national holiday, we recommit ourselves to advocating for the humane treatment of all people—especially immigrants and workers whose labor sustains our communities, yet whose humanity is too often overlooked. Every person is created in the image of God, deserving of respect, compassion, and opportunity.
May we have the courage to lead with conscience, the strength to stand for justice, and the faith to believe that love, nonviolence, and solidarity can still transform our nation.
✨ “The end of all education should surely be service to others.” — César Chávez
Today, and always, we choose dignity, humanity, and hope.

🏈✨ What a blessing for the Bay Area! ✨🏈
Today, as the Super Bowl is hosted right here in our Bay Area, we pause with gratitude for this moment that brings people together from near and far.
We give a heartfelt thank you to all the workers — the hospitality staff, vendors, security teams, transportation crews, city workers, volunteers, and behind-the-scenes heroes — whose long hours and dedication made this entire week and today’s celebration possible. Your work matters. Your labor is seen. Your contribution is valued.
At Chavez Family Vision, we are reminded of the teachings of César Chávez, who believed deeply in the dignity of work, the power of community, and honoring those whose hands make our celebrations and daily lives possible.
May we celebrate responsibly, live with gratitude, and continue to live in the ways of César — lifting one another up, standing with workers, and building community rooted in respect and justice.

Today we honor the birthday of Rosa Parks, a quiet giant of the Civil Rights Movement whose courage changed the course of history. By choosing dignity over fear and justice over comfort, Rosa Parks showed the world that nonviolent resistance has the power to awaken conscience and transform society.
Her faithful witness reached far beyond one movement and deeply influenced leaders across generations — including Cesar Chavez, who often spoke of the power of peaceful action, moral courage, and standing firm in the face of injustice. Like Rosa Parks, César Chávez believed that true and lasting change comes not through anger or violence, but through sacrifice, faith, and collective action rooted in love for humanity.
At Chavez Family Vision, we strive to carry forward this shared legacy by uplifting education, empowering youth, and standing alongside families who continue to face barriers — always guided by the principles of justice, dignity, and nonviolence.
Today, we remember Rosa Parks not only for a seat she refused to give up, but for a movement she helped move forward — and for inspiring generations, including César Chávez, to keep walking the long and often difficult road toward equality.
🕊️✊
“Each person must live their life as a model for others.” – Rosa Parks
The lives of Rosa Parks and César Chávez remind us that real change often begins with ordinary people making faithful and courageous choices. Their legacy calls us to resist injustice with love, to stand firm without losing compassion, and to trust that even small acts of conscience can ripple across generations.
May we honor them not only with words, but through how we treat one another — especially the poor, the marginalized, and those whose voices are too often unheard.
God of justice and mercy,
we thank You for the life and witness of Rosa Parks,
and for the way her courage inspired leaders like César Chávez
to walk the path of nonviolence, dignity, and hope.
Strengthen us to stand for what is right,
to seek justice without hatred,
and to serve our communities with humility and love.
Bless the work of Chavez Family Vision,
that through education and opportunity
we may continue this sacred legacy of change.
Amen. 🙏✨

🚨 URGENT: Help Us Fund the 2026 Cesar E. Chavez Scholarships
Time is critical. Graduation season is approaching, and high school seniors from farmworker and low-income families are waiting to find out if they will have the financial support they need to attend college this fall.
At Chavez Family Vision, we are actively raising funds for our 2026 Cesar E. Chavez Scholarship Fund, which provides direct financial assistance to students who need it most — especially children of farmworkers and first-generation college students.
For many of these students, this scholarship is the difference between enrolling in college or having to postpone—or abandon—their dreams altogether. Tuition deposits, books, housing, and basic living expenses are due soon, and without immediate support, doors will begin to close.
Inspired by the legacy of Cesar E. Chavez, we believe that no student should be denied an education because their parents labored in the fields rather than boardrooms. Cesar taught us that justice requires action — and action cannot wait.
⏰ We need your help now.
Your donation today helps us say “yes” to a deserving student
Your gift ensures financial hardship does not cancel a college future
Your generosity directly impacts a student and an entire family
💚 Please give today and help us reach our scholarship goal before decisions must be made.
Every dollar counts. Every moment matters.
✨ Sí se puede — but only if we act together.
Thank you for standing with our students when they need it most.
