The New Ballet School (NBS) provides unparalleled ballet training to students of all ages and stages in downtown San Jose, California. The New Ballet School is an American Ballet Theatre Certified School. Training at New Ballet School provides a state-of-the-art classical ballet education, offering expert ballet training featuring the American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum with a focus on dancer health and child development. Training is student-focused and promotes a positive body image and self-confidence. Our certified teaching staff has many years of experience bringing high quality artistic training to students ranging from 18 months and up. The majority of our staff have danced professionally and understand first hand the elements required for an artist's development. RETURNING ON SEPT. 12, 2026: Saturday Beg/Int Adult Drop-In Class!

Saturdays
8:45 - 10am
Ages 16 and up

Ongoing open enrollment ballet classes for students ages 16 through adult are available on a drop-in basis. Classes are $20 a class or $180 for ten classes. Wear clothing you are comfortable moving in, yoga or exercise clothing is fine. Ballet slippers are recommended, but feel free to take your first class in socks if you like.

Studio Rentals!

New Ballet has five studios available for rent for rehearsals, auditions, private classes, workshops, photo shoots and gatherings (evening space is limited). All studios have mirrors, marley floors, and are set up to play both phones/computers. Four of the studios have high ceilings which are great for partnering.

Studio Mohr is also equipped with state of the art lighting that can be used for streaming and video productions at an additional cost.

New Class Instructor Highlight: Meet Anouk Haffner!

Ms. Haffner will be the new lead instructor for Level 1B as well as the Dance With Me and Pre-Primary classes.

Anouk Haffner is from Beaverton, Oregon, and joined New Ballet in 2025 as a Studio Company dancer. She trained at Oregon Ballet Theatre School, Sultanov Russian Ballet Academy, and The Portland Ballet before joining the University of Utah School of Dance Ballet BFA Program. She received the University of Utah College of Fine Arts School of Dance 2025 Outstanding Senior Award. Anouk danced the role of Clara in The San Jose Nutcracker in 2025.

Anouk has previously led rehearsals for the University of Utah Ballet Summer Intensive. She taught character masterclasses in the Salt Lake City area and led Character Dance Ensemble repertoire rehearsals. Anouk also choreographed for a student-run production at the University of Utah. She joined the New Ballet School faculty in 2026. Anouk has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She holds a BFA in Ballet and a BS in Marketing from the University of Utah.

New Class Instructor Highlight: Meet Samantha Ladner!

Ms. Ladner will be the new instructor for our Thursday evening and Saturday morning Adult Drop-in classes, as well as the lead instructor for Level 3B.

Samantha Ladner is originally from Leominster, Massachusetts and began her dance training at Paula Meola Dance before attending the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as a student of Jared Redick, Laura Martin, and Jennet Zerbe. She then spent two seasons as a trainee with Ballet Rhode Island before joining New Ballet’s Studio Company in 2025. She danced the role of Moyna in Dalia Rawson's 2026 restaging of Giselle.

Samantha taught for Ballet Rhode Island’s ProviDANCE program, teaching ballet/movement fundamentals to students in Providence and Pawtucket public school systems in underserved communities. She joined New Ballet School’s Faculty in 2026. Samantha Ladner has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.

New Class Instructor Highlight: Meet Grace Clements!

Ms. Clements will be the new instructor for the Fall Adult Ballet Bootcamp as well as both of our Sunday Primary Japantown classes. She is also the lead instructor for Levels 2B and 3A.

Grace Clements is from Chesapeake, Virginia. She joined New Ballet’s Studio Company in 2023. Grace received her ballet training at Virginia Beach Ballet Academy under Ana Maria Martinez. She attended Butler Ballet at Butler University under Marek Cholewa, Rosanna Ruffo-Cholewa, and Ramon Flowers. Grace danced the role of Clara in The San Jose Nutcracker in 2025.

Grace Clements has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She has also taught at Butler Community Arts School at Butler University. Grace began teaching at New Ballet School in 2024 and has choreographed for the New Ballet Summer Intensive in 2025 and 2026.
