The curriculum begins with 50% instruction in English and 50% in Vietnamese.

2024 was a busy and successful year for Painter Vietnamese Immersion Program (VIP)!
We increased from 80 to nearly 145 students in Vietnamese Dual Language Immersion! Fall 2024, we expect over 170 students at Painter VIP.

We are experiencing high demand. With waitlists for our Vietnamese bilingual preschool (40 students) and TK/Kinder (10 students).

Ben Painter Elementary’s Vietnamese Dual Language Immersion (VDLI) program in San Jose, CA is expanding our OPEN enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year!

We will have open enrollment for students of ANY background and home address in the Silicon Valley vicinity for up an additional 20 spaces in kindergarten and an additional 20 for 1st grade! Students in grades 2 and 3 can test in by showing literacy in reading, writing, and speaking in Vietnamese, making our program an ideal choice for newcomers from Vietnam, whose parents desire to continue Vietnamese learning, while acquiring English.
The Painter VDLI program launched virtually in grades T4, TK, and Kindergarten during the Pandemic. Starting with 25 students rolling over to in-person learning from the original virtual group, our Vietnamese-English bilingual program has expanded to nearly 90 students in 2023, highlighting the huge demand for Vietnamese immersion.
We use the 50/50 two-way immersion model with a target of 50% of students who speak Vietnamese as a home language and the other 50% of any home language background. Currently, we have students of Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Punjabi, Filipino, and Hindi speaking families learning Vietnamese in addition to English!
