Rained out again yesterday, which means there will be one more class for the January series, this Sunday Feb. 12!

01/15/2023

Folks, it's exceptionally wet outside today. I'm going to cancel this morning's boxing class and extend the class into the first Sunday in February.

It's looking pretty good for the first day of our January boxing boot camp. Unless something drastically changes between now and 10 AM, see you at Backesto bball courts! If the weather shifts dramatically before then, I'll post another update!

For this Sunday's boot camp class, I will be monitoring the weather and posting updates here and on the event page. Generally, heavy rain and wind cancels and if it's a light drizzle I'll be there. Be sure to check here between 8 and 9 Sunday. Class is at 10!

Who’s down for a 4-week FREE Sunday boxing series covering the fundamentals of footwork, head movement and, of course, punching. Gimme a like if you’re interested. Gotta be Sunday because I’m in a class Saturday mornings. Be aware: It will be cold, it could be rainy. Canceled only for heavy rain!

Good afternoon boxers! Looking forward to Phase 3 in Santa Clara County, when gyms can open! I am planning to teach a socially distanced kickboxing workout class at Backesto Park.

Here’s what I’m planning:

• A 1-hour distanced, outdoor workout in the bocce court. The workout will consist of kickboxing movements, punches, kicks, knees and elbows, and body weight exercises including squats, pushups, lunges, etc. The class will start with a warmup and end with a cooldown.

• Students will be spaced at least 10 feet apart.

• We can't share equipment. You must bring your own mat and optionally hand weights between 1 and 5 pounds. I recommend Egg weights for cardio boxing workouts, they're super easy to hold: https://eggweights.com/collections/standard-egg-weights

Hand weights will help you get a more intense workout however I know they have been hard to find during shelter in place.

• Finally, I’m asking for a $5 maximum donation per class, or whatever you can afford up to $5, no amount is too small. I will donate all proceeds to People Acting in the Community Together (PACT), a local grassroots organization that provides leadership training and experience to community members of every ethnic, religious and socio-economic background. I will take PayPal, Venmo, and Cash app. Your donation amount is private.

Take a look at the type of workout I have in mind. Our class will be structured almost identically to this one: https://youtu.be/scv5zbO8kEg

Check back when you hear about Phase 3! I hope we can train together soon...

How to do Plyo Box Step Ups 03/19/2020

Hey boxers, here's a workout you can do at home without equipment (but if you have dumbells, kettlebell, heavy bag you can do even more):

Do this three times:

1. 25 kettlebell swings (or 20 jump squats if you don't have a KB)
2. 30 walking lunges. Make it harder by adding dumbbells or kettlebells in each hand or a curl bar across your back
3. 25 pushups
4. Shadow box, or box on a heavy bag if you have one, or have someone hold mitts for you:
20 of this combo: 1, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 4
5. Plyo box step ups 12 each leg (you can use a curb or bench or stable chair):

How to do Plyo Box Step Ups Here's how to do standard plyo box step ups along with a few variations. This may "seem" simple but you'd be amazed how many people do these incorrectly at t...
