Yesterday I stepped in during a situation I never hoped to be part of but one I was thankfully prepared for.
A repeat shoplifter became aggressive toward store staff after being asked multiple times to leave. Police had already been called, but response took time. When the situation turned physical and a shop owner was put at risk, I intervened.
Using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Self Defense Fundamentals , I was able to take him down, control him, and de-escalate the situation without causing harm. Once he calmed down and it was clear he was safe, I maintained control until Dutch law enforcement arrived and took over.
No punches.
No injuries.
Just control, composure, and responsibility.
Martial arts aren’t about aggression they’re about protecting people, managing chaos, and knowing when not to escalate. Yesterday was a reminder of why we train: not for medals or likes, but for moments where calm action matters.
Grateful no one was hurt. Respect to the shop staff who stayed strong under pressure.
