"Author and Buddhist/spiritual teacher Andrew Holecek hosted me on his podcast. We
discussed Liminal Dreaming, that twilight zone of consciousness between waking
and dreaming, a fascinating state where the boundaries of ego dissolve, and the
mind enters a playground of transformation. Watching how the ego falls apart in
this unglued state helps us understand how it comes together as we get back
online in the waking state – and glue the narrative of our lives back together.

Liminal dreaming is an access point by which we can direct our awareness, through active imagination, into the content-rich space between wakefulness and sleep. Different from our standard REM dreams, or from lucid dreams, liminal dreaming is accessed through hypnopompic and hypnogogic states. https://www.jameswjesso.com/liminal-dreaming-jennifer-dumpert-attmind-99/

You’ve surely passed through liminal dream space before. But you may not have thought of it as a destination. If you’ve ever been trying to stay awake and slipped into a hallucinatory swirl, or if you’ve simply noticed the kaleidoscopic half waking dreams you have as you’re falling asleep, you’ve experienced hypnagogia. If you wake up slowly enough, you’re probably also familiar with hypnopompia, a soft drift between thought and dream.Everyone is a natural liminal dreamer. You already do it. You already know how. The beginning exercises, in the link, will help you figure out how to find hypnagogia and hypnopompia: https://www.liminaldreaming.com/practices/
