Slow down, school’s back in session 🚗✏️
SFMTA has reduced speed limits in school zones to 15MPH! Thank you to our city partners who came together to unveil the new signs and a huge thank you to all the crossing guards who help get student safety to and from school.

No matter how students get to school, their journey should be safe. Make sure to slow down and stay alert as thousands of students go back to school this week!
Shout out to the Flynn Elementary San Francisco PTA for hosting the back to school traffic safety press conference this year 🦺📚

Division 2 baseball champs! The only SFUSD high school to have Ceramics 1 through 4! A greenhouse that students built themselves?! Welcome to Raoul Wallenberg High School 📚

Before school starts, Principal Tanya Harris took Superintendent Su and new Deputy Superintendent of Educational Services, John Davis, around Wallenberg to see how they’re setting up for back to school and to learn more about the school! ✏️🎓

We’re proud to provide free school meals to all SFUSD students! Because healthy meals help fuel healthy brains, happy classrooms, and successful school days ✏️🥗

Before the first day of school, Superintendent Dr. Maria Su got a taste of what’s on the menu, trying some of our new package school food options. Students will be able to start trying these new options during the first few weeks of school!

Here’s to a new school year, filled with nutritious meals, new favorites, and plenty of learning 📚🍽️

What a wonderful ribbon cutting! Last week we officially opened Mission Bay School, a vision decades in the making. The school sits on a lot that was designated for a public school in the 1998 Mission Bay Redevelopment Plan.

Mission Bay and surrounding communities in the eastern side of the city, are some of the fastest growing neighborhoods in San Francisco, but did not have a public elementary school. Mission Bay School was funded with the voter-approved bond funds, and delivered by the Bond Program in partnership with McCarthy Builders and DLR Group.

The building also includes space for the Mission Bay Hub, a linked learning program for high school students across the district to prepare for careers in health and bioscience and engage with local partners in these fields.

Delivery of the school project required collaboration across many organizations, including UC San Francisco, the San Francisco Office of Community Infrastructure and Investment, Mission Bay Development Corporation, SFMTA and SFCTA, and the City/County of San Francisco. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of making this dream a reality!

Thank you custodians! Here’s a behind the scenes look at what goes into getting our schools ready for back to school 📚🫧

It takes our teams several days to weeks to deep clean each school. From dusting high surfaces to waxing every floor, our incredible staff are hard at work to make sure students and staff have clean and safe environments to learn in! Thank you SFUSD facilities, we appreciate you so much!

In honor of the 80th Anniversary of the National School Lunch Program, Student Nutrition Services took a trip down memory lane!

The culinary team whipped up some Sloppy Joes based off an SFUSD school food recipe book they found from the 1960’s. This meal reminded them of school food growing up, how it’s changed, and that even something as simple as a Sloppy Joe can be nutritious and delicious for students.

The National School Lunch Program is turns 80 and in SFUSD it’s impact is felt more than ever since we offer free a free Breakfast and Lunch to students everyday!
