This spring, our upper level students experienced Rudolf Nureyev's legacy firsthand. From May 11–21, we hosted the first installment of the Nureyev Project–SF, a three-year initiative exploring his contributions to ballet, beginning with his celebrated staging of La Bayadère with master classes and variation coaching led by Karin Averty and Pierre Vilanoba, both former SF Ballet principal dancers with deep ties to the Nureyev repertoire. A little pas de deux prep for your Friday! Pas de deux classes at our school are a vital component of our advanced students’ training, requiring immense focus, patience, and trust between partners. That dedication was beautifully displayed at Spring Festival.

Summer Dance Camp is back! ☀️ We’re proud to partner with once again to promote creative expression through the performing arts. This free four-day camp for Boys & Girls Club members runs June 15–18 and wraps up with a showcase performance for family and friends.

AAPI Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the contributions, stories, and legacies of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders who shape our communities and culture — including right here at SF Ballet. This month we're spotlighting Sedley Chew, who arrived here at SF Ballet School on a full scholarship, went on to dance with American Ballet Theatre and San Francisco Ballet, and today manages the backstage action as Head Carpenter. Soloist and Creation House Associate Choreographer Myles Thatcher's stunning new work created on the SF Ballet School Trainees had its San Francisco premiere last weekend. He says "I wanted to look at the urgency that we feel in our short time on the planet for purpose and connection, or just understanding we have limited time here with these bodies—that drive to find meaning while we’re here."
